Nepal now has more internet subscriptions than its total population. According to the latest Nepal Telecommunications Authority data, the country recorded 3.13 crore broadband subscriptions between July 17 and August 16, 2026, compared with a population of about 29.2 million.

That doesn’t mean 3.13 crore people are using the internet. The figure counts active subscriptions, so one person can have multiple connections—for example, more than one SIM card along with a home Wi-Fi connection. Mobile broadband accounts for the vast majority of subscriptions, with 4G making up most mobile internet use. Fixed broadband, mainly fibre connections, is also continuing to grow.

NASA is scheduled to launch its next-generation Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope today at 5:11 PM Nepal time, aboard SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy rocket.

Roman has a smaller 2.4-metre mirror compared to James Webb’s 6.5-metre mirror, but it can capture around 50 times more sky in a single image. This wide view will help scientists study billions of galaxies, search for new planets and better understand dark matter, dark energy and black holes. After launch, Roman will travel about 1.6 million kilometres from Earth.

Viewers can watch the launch live on NASA’s website, NASA+ and NASA’s YouTube channel.

Meta has agreed to a landmark $17.1 billion settlement with U.S. states and territories over allegations that Facebook and Instagram used addictive features that could harm children and teens. The claims also accused Meta of collecting data from pr***en users without parental permission and misleading the public about the safety of its platforms. The settlement covers cases brought by 46 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands, making it the largest state consumer-protection settlement outside the Big To***co settlements of the 1990s.

As part of the deal, Meta must introduce sweeping safety changes on Facebook and Instagram. These include a two-hour combined daily limit, mandatory breaks after extended use, blocking access from midnight to 6 a.m., disabling most notifications during school hours, stronger age verification, safer content controls, improved parental controls, and limits on features such as visible likes and certain beauty filters. Teens will also have the option to view feeds chronologically instead of through algorithmic recommendations, while the new measures will be independently assessed for their effectiveness.

Starlink is ready to deploy its satellite internet service in flood-hit areas of Rasuwa, Dhading, and Nuwakot. 🛰️🇳🇵 However, the deployment is currently waiting for government approval due to Nepal’s existing policies around satellite internet services.

This service could help restore communication in areas where roads, bridges, and mobile networks have been affected, making it easier for rescue teams and humanitarian workers to coordinate during the ongoing emergency.
