Applications are now open for the One Cover Virtual Cybersecurity Internship Program.

One Cover Pvt. Ltd. is a cybersecurity company based in Nepal. Through this 6 week virtual internship, we want to give students a real, structured space to build practical cybersecurity skills, not just learn theory.

Interns will work through hands on labs, practical tasks, and structured assessments designed to build real world problem solving and security testing skills.

During the 6 weeks, interns will:

• Work on hands-on cybersecurity tasks and labs
• Develop practical security testing skills
• Apply cybersecurity concepts in realistic scenarios
• Complete structured, lab-based assessments
• Receive a Certificate of Completion upon successfully completing the program

Open to students from 3rd semester onwards, from all academic streams, who are serious about learning cybersecurity.

Cybersecurity: Perception vs Reality

The gap between how safe your business feels and how safe it actually is, is where most breaches happen.

1. "We're too small for anyone to target."
- Most attacks are automated. They're not choosing you, they're scanning thousands of businesses and stopping wherever the door is unlocked.

2. "We'd know immediately if we were breached."
- The average business takes weeks, sometimes months, to notice. Attackers who are good at this don't announce themselves.

3. "Our antivirus and firewall have us covered."
- Those stop the obvious attacks. They do little against a stolen password or one click on the wrong email. Most breaches don't break in, they get let in.

4. "We did a security review once, so we're set."
- Your systems, staff, and software change constantly. A review from a year ago is a photo of a moving target.

5. "IT handles security. It's not my problem."
- Most breaches start with a person, not a server. Security is everyone's job, whether or not it's in their title.

Closing that gap doesn't take a bigger budget. It takes an honest look at where you actually stand.

What a rewarding few days at SANOG 44 in Kathmandu

Our Founder & CEO, Chiranjibi Adhikari, spent three days connecting with the people driving South Asia's internet and cybersecurity community, from network operators and policy leaders to fellow security teams.

A special thanks to everyone we shared the room, discussions, and coffee breaks with. The energy of this community is what makes SANOG special. A few of the meaningful conversations along the way:

Reconnecting with Champika Wijayatunga, Technical Engagement Director, Asia Pacific at ICANN, on strengthening the Internet ecosystem and a potential partnership model between ICANN and the CAN Federation.

A great meeting with Rupsan Shrestha, Regional Account Manager at Fortinet, aligning on the region's digital future and the young talent leading cybersecurity across Nepal and Bhutan.

Two cybersecurity entrepreneurs, one shared mission: connecting with Rajan Pant as One Cover and Resecurity explored how local expertise and global threat intelligence build stronger defenses for Nepal.

An insightful discussion with Abhishek Dixit and Sameer Baweja of Genie Networks on advanced DDoS protection and network observability, and exciting possibilities for collaboration alongside TechPaaila Innovations.

🎣 Your bank will never text you a link to "verify your account." But scammers are counting on you forgetting that.

Over the past year, one of the most common scams we've seen hitting people in Nepal is the fake SMS. It looks urgent, it looks official, and it usually says something like: "Your account has been suspended. Click here to restore access."

Here's what's actually happening behind that message:
- The link sends you to a fake page that looks almost identical to your real bank's site
- You enter your login details, and hand them straight to the attacker
- By the time you realize, the money or access is already gone

The tricky part? These messages are getting harder to spot. The grammar is cleaner, the logos are real, and they often arrive at moments when you're distracted.
A few things worth remembering:
Banks and government services don't ask for passwords or OTPs over SMS. A real institution will never rush you into clicking. And if you're ever unsure, open the app or website directly instead of tapping the link. It takes ten extra seconds and saves you a very bad week.
