The move to a national Red Light Covid alert has sadly meant that the Pro Audio Showcase originally planned for September 2021, and subsequently re-scheduled for February 2022, is now CANCELLED.

The organising group and exhibitors are in agreement that the expected Omicron wave and Auckland’s red light situation makes staging a safe & successful PAS event impossible. We are all disappointed, however you can certainly expect a PAS 2023 – dates to be confirmed! Thanks to all those who took the time to register to attend in 2021/2 – we’ll be very pleased to see you next year!

‘Sup G ?

At ProAudio Showcase 2021/22 come and check out the Warm Audio range of classic inspired microphones including their latest creation the WA-8000, their take on the legendary Sony 800G microphone beloved by the hip hop community.

The sound of this mic has delivered hits for artists ranging from Dr. Dre, Mariah Carey, Boyz II Men and Brian McKnight to Eminem, Rihanna, Drake and more. The original stood out, boasting a natural and open top end, supremely clear midrange, and the ability to render detail in a vocal performance unlike most other mics on the planet. The WA-8000 rises to the occasion and delivers all that top end, beat by beat, at a price that will leave you hypnotized.

The team at Warm audio did not take lightly the task of bringing a microphone with this legacy to market. It’s not enough to simply measure components and hit “print” - and that's why the WA-8000 has a custom K-67 inspired all-brass capsule, Lundahl Sweden transformer, NOS 6AU6 tube and the most premium 7-pin cable solution from Gotham Switzerland.

2021 Pro Audio Showcase now scheduled for February 2022

Auckland’s enduring Level 3 Covid lockdown has unfortunately made the re-scheduled November dates for the 2021 Pro Audio Showcase unviable. With the exhibiting companies still keen for the biennial industry event to go ahead, organisers have announced new dates in February next year.

Originally scheduled for September 2021, the Pro Audio Showcase will now take place on Wednesday & Thursday, February 16-17, 2022. The venue remains Auckland’s Victory Church Convention Centre, overlooking Victoria Park in Freemans Bay. Should Covid-related public gathering restrictions remain in effect at that time there will be no further postponement.

The revised Pro Audio Showcase hours are:
• Wednesday, February 16 – 10am - 6pm
• Thursday, February 17 – 10am - 4pm

While entry on either day remains free, attendees are requested to pre-register in advance.

SMSG NZ present two Online Panel Discussions this week

With Pro Audio Showcase 2021 Covid-postponed until November the Screen Music & Sound Guild is continuing with their two planned PAS 2021 specialist panel discussions.

‘Sound And The Panthers’ - online Wednesday, September 15 from 3pm to 4.30pm.
Marshall Smith, co-chair of SMSG, will talk with Nick Buckton, Jordan Smith, and Brendon Morrow about the challenges of working on TV series The Panthers with multiple composers. Music and story are closely entwined, so the sound had a huge role to play.

Join online at 3pm on Wednesday 15 Sept here: https://vimeo.com/event/1241879

On the following day…

‘Set to Screen Workflow’ – online Thursday, September 16 from 3pm to 4.30pm.
John McKay of SMSG, will talk with Jake Slaney, Chris Sinclair, Isaac Spedding and Annie Collins about the problems faced by most sound departments when working through the on-set to screen process. The calibre of guests makes for a lively event and there will be Q&A opportunity for audience participation.

Join online, join 3pm on Thurs 16th Sept here: https://vimeo.com/event/1241879

SMSG talks to screen industry experts on various topics.

The organising team behind Pro Audio Showcase 2021 are thrilled to announce that the re-scheduled event will go ahead in November. In a break from the established Wed/Thurs pattern, the show’s new dates will be Friday and Saturday, November 19/20.

With Covid making the planned mid-September dates impossible, organisers have been looking progressively further ahead in the calendar to establish a post-Auckland lockdown replacement. Pre-existing bookings meant the Victory Church Convention Centre venue was not available for a mid-week event during November, however, the inclusion of Saturday November 20 as a show day is welcomed as a chance to try something new for PAS.

Since the very first Pro Audio Showcase back in 2007 there have been discussions about the merits of including a Saturday and the 2021 exhibiting companies have embraced this opportunity to trial the idea. While encroaching on a weekend was not the original plan, it does bring with it the positive of giving a new opportunity for potential attendees who find that weekdays away from their workplace are problematic for whatever reason.
The revised Pro Audio Showcase 2021 hours will be 10am - 6pm on Friday November 19, and 10am - 4pm on Saturday November 20.

While entry remains free attendees will need to pre-register* in advance please - www.facebook.com/proaudionz

*Note that if you have already pre-registered there’s no need to repeat the process for the rescheduled dates.

SMSG and Pro Audio Showcase 2021 Fill PAS Postponement Gap

Despite Pro Audio Showcase 2021 being postponed due to lockdown restrictions, the Screen Music and Sound Guild (SMSG) and Pro Audio Showcase organisers are pleased to announce the event’s scheduled panel discussions will continue on Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 September, from 3 to 4.30pm both days.

The two very different discussions will take place online, allowing anyone to join the audience and take part in what are anticipated to be robust Q&A sessions following!

The first session on Wednesday 15 September (3pm – 4.30pm) will feature three sound creatives from the current TVNZ series ‘The Panthers’. Nick Buckton, Jordan Smith, and Brendon Morrow will share their unique experience of working with multiple composers. This session will be of particular interest to screen composers and sound post professionals.

The second session on Thursday 16 September (3pm – 4.30pm) will focus on the importance of the communication flow in creating an effective, and repeatable, ‘Set to Screen Workflow’. Hosted by John McKay, guests for this session are Jake Slaney, Chris Sinclair and esteemed film editor Annie Collins. Targeted at producers, directors, editors and sound crew this discussion is sure to elicit some strong opinions…

Event Update:

Organisers of the 2021 Pro Audio Showcase regretfully advise that the current nationwide Covid Delta Lockdown has necessitated the postponement of the event from the original mid-September dates.

While there was a 'Covid rain date' planned, continuing uncertainty around the duration of Level 4 status in Auckland has unfortunately made use of that similarly impractical. Discussions with the exhibitor group and venue are continuing in the hope that replacement dates in mid-November can be confirmed and the two-day showcase continues as planned.

Thank you for understanding.
