What a great time we had at last week's RCSA New Zealand Auckland pop-up networking event! So good to gather in person and connect with the community to chat about what 2022 looks like for all of us in the recruitment space.

The event also supported the Kindness Collective's PJ Project, inviting attendees to donate old and new PJs to keep Kiwi kids warm this winter.

Drinks, good conversations and a worthy cause --- always a great combination!

Why customise for your candidates? It's simple: here's why.

We all make mistakes - recruiters included - and texts, emails, or slightly illegible sticky notes are easy to miss. Even still, no one enjoys a call from work when they’re 2 days into their 3-day relaxing beach vacation, and your candidates especially won’t be pleased to hear from you.

With all your information in one place, there’s no chance of you missing that crucial ‘I’ll be away’ message. When you give candidates control over their own availability, you’re also taking a step towards developing a relationship with them that’s built on trust.

This is incredibly important today, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The 15% decrease in migration from January 2020 to December 2020 caused the number of skilled migrant workers available for temporary work to plummet, making the job for temp recruiters much more difficult.

By always respecting the time of your candidates, allowing them freedom and flexibility to be on call when they’re available, and working on building a relationship with them based on mutual trust and respect, you’re more likely to have retention success. Did you catch our post for Chinese Language Week? If you missed it, don't worry! Here are some great ways to incorporate Mandarin into your daily office lives.

Firstly, to start an email - if you are writing informally, you can start your email with 你好. If you are writing a formal email (to a boss or someone you don't know very well), you can write 您好 instead.

If you want to sign off an email politely, you can use 祝好, which is a similar level to 'kind regards' in English. But, its direct translation is 'I wish you well.'

If you're planning an office gathering after lockdown (or you're lucky enough to already be out of lockdown), you can use the term 应酬, which is the term for a business social gathering.

Of course, finishing work is everyone's favourite time of day 🤫, and the term for this is xiàbān/下班!

There were a number of recommendations the New Zealand Council of Trade Unions made in a 2013 report for solving the issue of 'work insecurity' in New Zealand.

While many of these are for the government and unions, they also include some that can be instated by specifically labour-hire agencies. They should also be considered staffing and recruitment agencies.

Some of these measures include implementing bias elimination strategies to create ‘stronger measures to prevent discrimination against workers’. This initially seems like a complicated issue, but surface-level changes can easily be made by using online staffing software or recruitment agency software.

We've written about recommendation systems before, but the reasons behind them are much more nuanced.

The Association for Computing Machinery commends constraint-based recommender systems, like Scissors, for their ability to sift through more complex information and services - just like how our temporary staffing software system can examine your candidate database and more.
