As you will be aware, our Main Data Center experienced a power outage yesterday, despite in place redundancies.

At 10:15 Vector had an area-wide power outage affecting the Data Center.

As soon as it became evident that due to technical difficulties we will not be able to rely on our in-house power generation, we had an external trailed genset brought in from our on-call contractor.

Unfortunately, the external generator did not arrive before the UPS batteries expired and both feeds were lost by 11:20.

After the external generator was wired in and tested, we resupplied power to the Data Center, and both feeds were restored at 11:49.

Once power was restored we started the process of booting network equipment, SANs, hypervisors and customer equipment.

We are working on resolving the problem with the in-house generator and ensuring the chance of a recurrence is minimised. We are looking at solutions for alternative backup power until we can trust that our in-house power generation is suitable to meet the reliability expectations we and our customers hold.

We have not previously had an outage of this scale in the just over four years since we started our DC and it has been a long time since we have had any major disruption across our services, and we are disappointed that it has happened and apologise to those who were affected.
