That’s not a crack. That’s a spiderweb with a camera attached.

From the outside, it looked like a write-off. On the bench, it was a repair plan.

Somewhere under a microscope right now, Santiago is staring at a component smaller than a grain of rice — deciding whether your MacBook needs a brand new logic board, or just needs him.

Spoiler: usually it's him.

Most shops see a dead board and reach straight for a replacement. $1,000+, data gone, done, next customer.
We reach for the soldering iron instead — trace the fault down to the one component that actually failed, and fix that. Nothing else.

Starting from $345. Same result, without paying for the 90% of the board that was never broken in the first place.

If someone's quoted you a full board swap, it might be worth a second look before you pay for parts you don't need.

Cracked iPad screen. Terrible timing. Always.

Whether it happened in a school bag, on the kitchen tiles, or the dog did it, the next question is usually the same: How much is this going to hurt?

At 73inc, we keep iPad screen repairs straightforward. Quality replacement glass and digitisers, fitted properly, backed by a 90-day warranty — with same day turnaround in most cases.

And the bill does not have to land all at once. Pay by card, PayPal, or spread eligible repairs with Afterpay.

Fix the screen. Keep the week moving.

We're hearing it in the shop every week right now: people aren't ready to drop $2,500+ on a new MacBook just because the old one's acting up.

Fair enough. A cracked screen, a dying battery, or a MacBook that won't turn on doesn't automatically mean it's finished — most of the time, it means it needs a proper diagnosis, not a replacement.

We test first, quote a fixed price before any work starts, and if the repair genuinely doesn't make financial sense, we'll tell you that too — not talk you into spending money you don't need to. MacBook repair in Auckland shouldn't come with pressure tactics, especially when budgets are tight.

Component-level repairs where possible, quality parts, and a 90-day warranty on everything we do — because the point of fixing it is that it should actually stay fixed.

If your MacBook's given up on you, let's find out if it's really done before you spend on a new one.

Your laptop shutting down out of nowhere isn't random. It's almost always heat.

Dust builds up in the fan and heatsink over a year or two, airflow gets choked, and the internal temperature climbs until the laptop protects itself by switching off — usually mid-task, always inconveniently.

It's one of the most common laptop repair jobs we see in Auckland, across Dell, HP, Lenovo and Asus machines, and it's rarely as simple as "just clean it out." Often the thermal paste underneath has dried out too, which means the fan's fighting a losing battle even when it's spotless.

We test the actual temperatures under load before touching anything — no guessing, no swapping parts to see what sticks. If it's dust and dry paste, that's usually a same-day fix. If the fan itself has failed, we'll quote before replacing it.

Shutting down without warning isn't something to just live with — it gets worse, not better.

What do customers say after a repair at 73inc?

"Quick, cheap, lovely guys who've fixed my MacBook on multiple occasions."
"Very proactive in keeping me up-to-date with the repair status, and provided an amazing service."
"Good service, and able to support older Macs."

That last one's worth pulling out. Not every older Mac needs replacing just because Apple's stopped supporting it — we regularly assess and repair older Intel MacBooks and iMacs alongside the latest Apple silicon models.

The real question is whether the repair makes sense. If it does, we'll walk you through the options and cost. If the machine's past the point where spending more is sensible, we'll tell you that too.

A MacBook came in with catastrophic liquid damage. The logic board was dead — but the data wasn't.

Under magnification, it was clear the board itself couldn't be repaired. So instead of stopping there, we removed the NAND flash chips — the tiny components that physically hold all the data — and transplanted them onto a matching donor board in a controlled environment. That donor board powered up using the original data structure, and we recovered everything.

The client's old MacBook wasn't coming back. But we also had the brand new, current generation MacBook Air in stock, at $100 under the retail price — so they walked out with a brand new machine, all their data restored onto it, and their damaged one taken as trade-in against the data recovery cost.

Liquid damage doesn't always mean "starting from zero." Sometimes it means one hard conversation about the machine, and a much easier one about what replaces it.

Once a drive starts failing, the data doesn't wait for a diagnosis.

Screen swap, keyboard, battery — no risk to your data, ever.
But, if a drive or logic board is already on its way out before it reaches us, that clock is ticking regardless of what repair you've booked — and recovery from a failing drive isn't guaranteed.

Before any drive-related or logic board repair, back up. Takes under 5 minutes:

Time Machine — plug in a drive → System Settings → General → Time Machine → Back Up Now
iCloud — System Settings → [name] → iCloud → Desktop & Documents Sync on
Manual — drag Desktop + Documents onto a USB stick

We'll always handle the hardware right. Getting ahead of a failing drive is the one call that's yours to make first.

A client's iMac 27" (Mid-2017) came in refusing to boot — just a circle-with-a-slash icon on screen. That symbol means one thing: the Mac can't find a working startup disk.

Nine times out of ten, people read that as "the computer's dead." It wasn't.

We opened it up, found the internal drive had failed, and replaced it with a new 1TB SSD. Firmware updated, fresh copy of macOS installed, full bench test before it went back out the door.

That "prohibited" sign isn't a death sentence — it's a pointer to exactly what's wrong. Proper diagnosis is the difference between a straightforward drive swap and someone being told to buy a new machine.

If your iMac, MacBook, or desktop won't boot past a warning symbol, bring it in for a real diagnosis before you write it off.

Looking for a quality Apple device without the brand-new price?
Not everyone wants — or needs — to pay full retail for a new Mac or iPhone. So we keep options at every budget.

At 73inc we sell devices across the range: brand new, ex-display, pre-owned and professionally refurbished — MacBooks, iPhones, iPads, iMacs, AirPods, even Windows laptops and accessories.

Stock changes daily, so not everything we have is listed. If you've got something specific in mind, give us a call and we'll let you know what we've got that meets your needs.

Every device is selected and checked by the same technicians who repair this hardware every day, so you get clear condition grading and honest advice, not a mystery machine off an auction site.

Warranty is matched to the category, and we'll explain condition, battery health, storage and upgrade potential up front — so you can pick the right device for work, study or everyday use with no guesswork.

With prices climbing, a good ex-display or refurbished Mac is one of the smartest ways to get Apple quality for a fraction of the cost.
