How to break safety’s bad reputation as a bore 🥱

Are your colleagues about ready to slip into a compliance coma? Are you looking to declutter your safety practices and break safety’s reputation as a workplace snooze fest but don't know where to start?

Late last year ecoPortal Safety and Risk Consultant Craig Bleakley shared with National Safety Magazine the types of safety clutter, their consequences, and how to break through the noise 🎧

Here are a few tips of his tips to Marie Kondo your safety strategy:

1️⃣ Identify Safety Clutter: Recognise forms, processes, or rules that add little value to actual safety improvement.

2️⃣ Question Duplication: W**d out redundant forms, systems, or processes to streamline operations.

3️⃣ Avoid Symbolic Application: Ensure safety practices are relevant to the actual risks faced in different work settings.

4️⃣ Customise Training: Tailor safety training to individuals' roles and experience levels, avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach.

5️⃣ Clarify Responsibility: Simplify processes to clearly delineate responsibilities, aiding accountability during incidents.

6️⃣ Foster Dialogue: Encourage open discussions about safety practices, allowing employees to voice concerns and suggest improvements.

Clearing safety clutter not only streamlines processes but also rebuilds trust and enthusiasm in safety initiatives.

Notice something different lately? 👀

You eagle-eyes out there might have spotted that we've had a recent slogan change. Where we were a "Beautiful Health, Safety and Risk Management Software", we're now a "Health and Safety Engagement Software"

Don't worry—we're still beautiful 💅 and we still help manage risk ⚠️ But the new phrasing represents our devotion to supporting the building of environments where engaging with safety is the norm for everyone, not just the H&S team.

We like to see ourselves as the key that unlocks total engagement, which in turn opens the door to healthier environments—social, physical, and natural.

This slogan change comes alongside some larger branding and design changes, so keep an eye out as they roll out 🚗

How Hamilton City Council makes the city home safe home 🏡

Maintaining the vast range of civic infrastructures that Hamilton has to offer is a big task, but the Hamilton City Council works hard every day to keep the city shining like the jewel of the central North Island it is 💎

Safety is a huge part of that work. The Council’s needed a comprehensive safety management system that could meet a diverse range of team-to-team requirements across 27 unique business unit. Where did their search for such a powerful system end? With us, of course 😎

ecoPortal became immensely appealing as a flexible platform that empowers the Council team to manage all kinds of risk factors—not just health & safety but financial risk, climate risk, and cyber-security risk, too.

While comprehensive, ecoPortal stays user-friendly, increasing the 900-strong Council staff’s ability to make reports and reviews a natural part of their workflow.
