When your site covers 690 hectares with poor cellular coverage and difficult terrain, reliable monitoring becomes a real challenge.

Teltrac designed and installed a custom IoT solution for the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary using strategically placed LoRaWAN gateways, wireless reed switches, and fence voltage monitoring devices - all connected to a live remote dashboard.

Protecting one of New Zealand’s largest predator-free sanctuaries takes more than fencing - it takes smart technology.

Teltrac recently upgraded the monitoring system at the Brook Waimārama Sanctuary near Nelson, replacing aging 3G infrastructure with a modern LoRaWAN IoT solution spanning the sanctuary’s 14.4km predator-proof fence line.

The new system provides real-time monitoring of gates, fence voltage, and alerts across the entire sanctuary - helping rangers respond faster and make better-informed decisions to protect precious native species including kiwi, tuatara, and kākāriki.

Another example of how IoT and digital infrastructure can solve complex challenges in remote environments.
