We've been diving much deeper into AI lately, looking at how we can use it more effectively and efficiently in our day-to-day work at Cre8ive.
There is a LOT to learn (and it’s changing incredibly quickly), so as I come across simple tips that genuinely make a difference, we will share them.
Here’s an easy one to start with.
💡 One word that can improve your AI prompts: “because”.
When you give AI an instruction, don’t just tell it what you want. Explain why.
For example:
⛔ Weak:
“Don’t use emojis.”
✅ Better:
“Don’t use emojis because this is going into a formal proposal for a corporate client and needs a polished, professional tone.”
Why is the second one better?
The first gives AI one rule: no emojis.
The second gives it context. It now understands you’re trying to produce a formal, professional document, so it can use that information to make better decisions about the rest of the output too.
A few more examples:
✏️ For readability:
“Write short sentences because most of my readers will open this on their phone and skim it.”
📧 For formatting:
“Don’t use tables because I’m pasting this into an email platform where tables don’t display reliably.”
🔎 For accuracy:
“Tell me clearly when you’re uncertain because I may use this information with clients, and I would rather know something needs checking than be given a confident but incorrect answer.”
And on that last one — always fact-check anything important. Telling AI not to make things up doesn’t guarantee it won’t!
One more tip: make your “becauses” permanent.
If you find yourself giving AI the same rules repeatedly, add them to your Custom Instructions or Project Instructions instead.
For example, rather than:
“Use NZ spelling.”
Try:
“Use New Zealand English spelling and conventions by default because our clients and audiences are predominantly New Zealand-based. Avoid US spelling and terminology, as it can make content feel generic or poorly localised.”
Then you don’t need to repeat it every time.
The simple formula:
👉 What you want + why you want it.
A small change to the way you prompt AI that can lead to noticeably better results.
