Ruth has built something truly special with the Happy Saver community. It was a real treat for Olav and Brynne to participate in an evening full of sharing and affirmation with smart Kiwis navigating their individual financial paths towards a secure future at a meet-up in Dunedin earlier this week.

No matter where your money started or where it's going, engagement with your financial life is the key to success. We left feeling so inspired and so proud that these conversations are happening in our own beautiful city.

Banks love a tidy paper trail, but self-employment rarely offers that in a neat package. Accountant Sam Harith shares how self-employed people can get mortgage application-ready, from building up the right records to showing income, business performance, and household spending in a way lenders can actually work with.

Getting a mortgage is a big enough milestone. Getting one while self-employed can add a few extra hurdles. Accountant Sam Harith shows how, with the right records and a bit of planning, you can make your case without turning your finances into a full-time admin job.

We’ve got your back-up 🤝 We’ve added the ability to be able to back up and restore your categories and your category rules.

This’ll allow you to keep a separate record of this data if you need, and allows more portability of your data if you want to share your category set-up with others.

Just head to Manage > Backup and Restore from the main PocketSmith menu to see the new options.

Episode one gave us Christian Hull’s very funny, very honest money story.

Episode two gets out the fine-toothed comb.

In the latest ep of the Hot-Mess Money Makeover series, Owen joins Gemma on the Australian Finance Podcast to unpack what Christian’s first coaching session revealed — where the stress is coming from, what habits are already working, and which small changes could make the biggest difference.

It’s less about fixing everything at once, and more about finding the next right step. For Christian, that means using PocketSmith to track what matters and turn “I don’t know what I can do” into something a bit more manageable.

You may have seen PocketSmith pop up in Sydney recently.

Between the Women in Open Banking Summit, Fintech Data Horizons Summit, and our own Wealthtech meetup, we came away with plenty to think about.

Our latest blog reflects on the people behind the progress, from lived experience and fintech community to trust in AI.

Thanks to all of our Australian friends, FinTech Australia and everyone else who made it such a huge week for us - we had a blast!

Our recent Sydney trip took us from the Women in Open Banking summit to the Fintech Data Horizons Summit and a PocketSmith-hosted Wealthtech meetup. Here are a few reflections on open banking, AI and why this work feels so deeply human.

New Sharesight data suggests Australian women are engaging more in their investment tracking than women in other comparable markets, and we were glad to add PocketSmith’s perspective.

Many women are already the CFO of their household, managing the day-to-day while planning for what’s next. Investing can often be a natural extension of that role.

There’s still a gap to close. But recognising the financial skill already happening is an important part to recognise.

New Sharesight data reveals Australian women are the most engaged investors in the Western world. So what's driving the gap?

Dunedin may be cold, but it has a knack for breeding a community of innovators with warmth. As one of the originators of the city’s early start-up scene, our CEO Jason Leong spoke to that yesterday on a chilly Monday evening.

It was a great opportunity to share with growing entrepreneurs the story of PocketSmith’s beginnings and evolution, the realities of AI’s growing influence in tech and how your own character and humanity are more important than ever in business success. And when that knowledge is passed on, the next generation gets to build from firmer ground.

Big thanks to Icehouse Ventures for bringing us together, and to Yvette Shum from Coralcone for being so candid about her own business journey. We love being a part of Dunedin’s storied start-up history!
