Our Story

The Rental Certificate of Compliance is a powerful tool. Not only does it provide New Zealand landlords and tenants with evidence of their rental properties as a “Lawful Premise”. But most importantly, it will help improve the quality and standards of rental properties throughout New Zealand.

What was needed on the next step of the journey was a tool that could deliver the Certificate of Compliance. This led to the development of a Mobile App, that would be used to assess the liveability of rental properties over more than 140 questions.

The iCompli App evaluates the current condition of a property to give an overall liveability rating measured over an ‘AA’ to ‘F’ scoring system. A ‘AA’ rating means the property has an excellent liveability rating, and an ‘F’ score is very poor. Assessors look closely at a number of factors including (but not limited to) insulation, heating, security, electrical safety and more, to give their overall rating of the property. Benefiting both landlords and tenants, the Certificate of Compliance is a comprehensive analysis of the condition and liveability of the property, helps inexperienced buyers recognise good quality rental accommodation and gives landlords an edge when marketing their properties to potential renters.

The last piece of the puzzle, that very few people are aware of is the responsibilities that landlords towards Health and Safety. A landlord is a PCBU (Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking). This means landlords have a duty of care, as far as is reasonably practicable, to ensure the health and safety of everyone involved with or affected by work on their property. We offer a Landlord Health and Safety Process designed to assist property owners to become compliant to their responsibilities in line with the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
