Huge thank you to the Southland Times for featuring TAKTYK® in Saturday’s paper.

What started as an idea nearly 7 years ago is now officially becoming reality.

TAKTYK® was built right here in Southland alongside rangatahi who helped test, shape, manufacture, and prepare the very first release decks. The project combines strategy, reading, problem solving, creativity, and face-to-face social gameplay in a world increasingly dominated by passive screen time.

Really appreciate the coverage and support for ambitious youth-led innovation happening in our region.

Special thanks to everyone who has supported the journey so far. From the young people helping pack decks and learn the game, through to the wider community backing something completely new and locally created.

The official TAKTYK® launch happened on Sunday at Invercargill Central Mall during Youth Week.

Sealed away for hundreds of years. Now it is time.

TAKTYK® launches Sunday 24 May 2026 during Invercargill Youth Week celebrations.

Built right here in Southland, TAKTYK® is a competitive, chess inspired card game designed to challenge strategy, literacy, numeracy, and real world thinking through gameplay.

This is more than a release. It is the first time the community gets to experience a system shaped by years of working directly with rangatahi, built for how they actually learn, play, and connect.

Join our release event to meet the creator of TAKTYK®, watch live games in action, and be among the first to experience it, and buy a deck before they all sell out.

Starter decks are $60 incl. GST and come with everything you need to challenge other players.

There will be limited stock on release day, with only 300 starter decks available at launch. 100 Grass, 100 Water, and 100 Fire.

Following release, regular community events will be held where players with decks can battle and compete to win rare, ultra rare, and legendary holographic cards to add to their collection.

TAKTYK® is designed as a fundraising initiative, inviting direct market participation by contributing a portion of sales proceeds to support initiatives and organisations that contribute to the growth and future of young people. The inaugural entities supported at the time of printing include the social enterprise Your Corps®, which focuses on mental health, digital infrastructure, education pathways, employment opportunities, and e waste initiatives, and Insert Coin To Play Charitable Trust™, which helps keep these opportunities free and accessible.

Is Windows 11 25H2 Killing Your Fortnite Ping? 📉

The Problem:
The 25H2 update has a "Network Stack" bug. If you have both Wi-Fi and Ethernet active, Windows starts fighting itself, causing micro-stutters, lag spikes, and "Connection Lost" errors in Fortnite.

The Quick Fix (Kill the Conflict) ⚔️
Windows is trying to "smart switch" between your connections mid-game. Stop it:
Action: Disable your Wi-Fi entirely while your Ethernet is plugged in.
How: Taskbar > Quick Settings > Toggle Wi-Fi OFF.
Result: No more background network "handshaking" during build fights.

Fix the Power "Sleep" Bug 🔋
25H2 resets your power settings, letting Windows put your network card to "sleep" to save power—even during a match.
Action: Right-click Start > Device Manager.
How: Find your Network Adapter > Properties > Power Management.
Fix: Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power."

Force Ethernet Priority 🥇
If you must keep both on, tell Windows that Ethernet is the boss.
Action: Search for "View Network Connections".
How: Right-click Ethernet > Properties > IPv4 > Advanced.
Fix: Uncheck "Automatic Metric" and type 1. Do the same for Wi-Fi but type 20.

The Fortnite "Anti-Cheat" Refresh 🛠️
Updates often corrupt the link between your network and Anti-Cheat.
Action: Go to your Fortnite install folder: Binaries\Win64\EasyAntiCheat.
How: Run EasyAntiCheat_Setup.exe as Admin.
Fix: Click Repair Service.

Final Boss Fix (The Driver) 🏎️
The 25H2 default drivers are buggy.
Action: Don't trust Windows Update.
How: Go to Realtek's official site or your Motherboard's support page.
Fix: Manually download the latest LAN/Chipset drivers from 2026.

Still lagging? You might need to roll back to 24H2 until Microsoft drops a cumulative patch. Check your Update History in Settings to uninstall KB5077181! 🛑

Don't hide your router in a cupboard! 🛑 Think of it as a lamp—if you can't see it, it can't 'light up' your room with high-speed internet. 💡 Check our map for the 'Sweet Spot' in your home layout! 🏠⚡️

1.The "Lamp Rule": Place your router like a lamp—central, elevated, and in the open. Hiding it in a cabinet kills 30% of your signal.

2.Split Your Bands: Use the 6GHz band for your work laptop and the 2.4GHz band for smart lightbulbs. Don't let your toaster slow down your Zoom call!

3.The Reboot Habit: Modern routers are mini-computers. A 30-second power cycle once a month clears the "brain fog."

This is fresh build pairing second hand and brand new to make a great balance for a first PC This client was forward to me by James from Your Corps

With all the questions asked and price point found it then lead me down the Facebook Market place and Trademe rabbit hole trying to find the best value for money I could muster

What we ended up with was
A Gigabyte Eagle 6500xt 4gb GPU
Intel i3 7100
8gb 2x4gb kit of 2400mhz ram from Teamgroup
An Apacer 256gb M.2 drive
Deepcool AG200 cooler
Zalman N4 Case (come with 6 included fans with lighting)
TP-Link Archer T4e WiFi and Bluetooth card
All on a MSI b250m Gaming Pro motherboard

These choices leave space from some incremental upgrades
With the choices of second hand GPUs like Nvidia 3060 or AMD 7600xt
or even the choices of a new options such as a Nvidia 5060 or AMD 9060xt

The CPU also has upgrades to the i5 or even i7 options going from 2 core 4 threads to 8cores 16Threads i7 option

Its all about balancing the right options together to gain the best of everything from value to performance to having space for smaller upgrades later that will make a difference.

Here is an example of longevity in a pc from drab to fab

It was in for an upgrade from a Ryzen 3 2200g and 1660 Ti
to a Ryzen 7 3700x and EVGA FTWIII 3070 Ti

The AM4 platform has been the king of upgradability since inception
some motherboards allowing 1st gen Ryzen all the way to Ryzen 5000 series all with only BIOS updates.

This gaming PC has gone from barely holding on or very very low performance in titles that are now getting more and more demanding

Now with the upgrade and full PC clean its ready for new lease of life with the performance slider in game turned right up in most 1080p gaming titles

Only things left to boost this PC to its max will be Some new 2nd hand ddr4 3200mhz ram sticks and a NVMe m.2 drive to give that more responsive boot up and load times.

Often times second hand bargains can be found to boost your current rig for the much needed filler until a full new system is feasible especially in the current climate of PC hardware often being out of reach for those who just want to have fun on budget

With a slight adjustment to fan orientation and cable management being much much better it allows for easier servicing and cleaning without all the wires being a mess

After the longest time we have managed to convince To move to the dark side of gaming.

His first Windows PC for the longest time Not only is it a powerhouse for gaming and streaming but also workflow and content creation.
We focused mostly on price to performance trying to squeeze every last Frame out of games but also saving valuable time on his creation side too

With the DEEPCOOL CC560 V2 ATX Mid Tower as the basis for the build offering great airflow and performance for the price whilst still looking clean in any setup

Next was an easy choice with B850M GAMING X WF6E and AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
paired for excellent value and performance offering the latest and greatest from AM5 without digging to deep into the wallet

Arguably one of the next most crucial choices was the Crucial p310 2tb NVMe Gen4 drive to run windows 11 and all the games you could think of. even though the B850 is Gen5 ready in most real world scenarios you wont even notice the difference other then the cost to the wallet.

As in a previous post with DDR5 ram options we becoming scarce and expensive real quick, the ever reliable G.SKILL Ripjaws M5 32gb 2x16 CL36 6000mhz was selected as the sweet spot for Am5 performance

Cooling solution was a no brainer with the DEEPCOOL AK400 ZERO DARK CPU Cooler as it sleek and just does its job extremely well for the price no frills no extra RGB just performance at its finest

Next the gaming and productivity Mid range Powerhouse PNY RTX 5060 Ti 16gb GDDR7 This GPU especially paired with the Black Friday we managed to secure put its from being only the 8gb variant to the 16gb for only a fraction more making it one of the best deals of this build. It also continues the theme of sleek and nothing overly flashy on the looks but it delivers or performance

Last but never least the Silverstone DA750R Black 750watt a good fit for not too over kill but not so low spec'd that it is an immediate weak link in the system
Silverstone have a solid reputation and they are priced well With the high efficiency rating and fully modular design makes installing and cable managing a breeze.

💡 The RAM Squeeze: Why Your Next Computer Upgrade Will Cost More
If you're planning to buy a new computer, laptop, or simply upgrade your current memory (RAM), be prepared for some sticker shock. The entire tech industry is facing a major memory crunch.
Here are the key takeaways you need to know:

🧠 1. The "Brain Drain" for AI
The biggest reason for the price hike is the Artificial Intelligence (AI) boom.
AI servers need massive amounts of specialized memory (called HBM). Tech companies like Samsung and Micron are pumping all their resources into making this expensive AI memory because it's highly profitable.
Bottom line: AI is hogging all the memory parts, leaving less for everyday laptops and PCs.

💰 2. Prices Are Up and Staying Up
RAM prices have already doubled in many cases. The bad news? Analysts say prices will remain high, or even increase further, well into 2026 and likely 2027.
Bottom line: Don't wait for a sale. The current "high" price is the new normal for the next couple of years.

🏗️ 3. The Shift to DDR5
The newer, faster type of memory is called DDR5. It's the new standard, but it's expensive.
The older, cheaper standard (DDR4) is being phased out, which means its prices are also going up due to scarcity. You're caught between paying a premium for new tech or paying more for old tech.
Bottom line: Upgrading your current DDR4 system might be a smarter budget move than building a brand new DDR5 PC right now.

📉 4. No Quick Fixes
New factories to make more memory take years to build. We won't see a significant boost in supply until at least 2027 or 2028.
Bottom line: This "memory supercycle" is a long-term problem, not a temporary glitch.

🛒 What This Means For You:
Buying Advice: If you need RAM now, buy it now. Prices aren't dropping anytime soon.

Tech Shopping: Laptops, phones, and pre-built computers will all get more expensive as manufacturers pass their higher costs on to you.
