What makes a minibar truly smart?

A genuinely smart minibar detects, communicates and integrates with the systems your team already uses every day.

That's why we partner with Bartech Systems International.

As their reseller in New Zealand, we help hotels put that intelligence to work. Bartech's automatic minibars use infrared, microswitch and magnetic sensors to identify every product movement the moment it happens — and push that data straight into your PMS, accounting, F&B and maintenance platforms via wired or wireless communication.

For the hotel teams we work with, that means:

✅ Real-time visibility on minibar activity
✅ Accurate inventory management
✅ Automatic billing integration
✅ Fewer manual checks
✅ A smoother guest experience

The minibar shouldn't be the forgotten corner of the room. With the right technology and the right local partner, it becomes a smarter revenue center and provides a healthy ROI, something a manual minibar never does!

In modern hospitality, smart technology should do more than connect devices. It should create visibility, efficiency and value.

Look at Emma2 (its real name given by its hotel team colleagues).
Emma2 hails from the Phantas family, brought up by SoftBank Robotics Australia and Brantas is its legal guardian.

Emma2 is working its way through the lobby of this great hotel in New Zealand.

Contact us and we're happy to discuss the introduction of one of Emma2's siblings in your hotel.

“Minibars are a headache, but our brand standards demand we have them”
“Automatic minibars are extremely expensive and do not offer a return on investment”
“We offer free drinks in our 5 star hotel, we don’t need automatic minibars”

We hear these statements all the time and frankly, for someone who has been offering automatic minibars for about 20 years, it is quite disheartening at times.
What keeps us going are the many success stories that we have.

This week we had the privilege to stay at this beautiful 1,200 room casino hotel in Asia, where we installed our eDrawers and eTrays, in 2017.
Their team claim to generate US$ 60,000.00 a month (net) minibar revenue at a net profit of just over 50% (fifty).
This means that they paid their investment off in less than 36 months.
Since 2021, they are making an annual net profit of US$ 360,000.00 with their minibars!

How do they do it?

-They have an eTray that sits on the TV counter and that offers products that their guests want!
Displaying an eTray in the open, entices impulse buying.
-Because their Bartech Systems International minibar solution is automatic, they dare to offer higher value items thus creating an increased revenue opportunity.
-They do continually review their offerings by analyzing the slow and fast moving item reports and actively review guest feedback.
-They have a dedicated minibar manager who is their minibar ambassador, who has a dedicated team of refillers. The minibars are NOT operated by housekeeping staff.
-They have a maintenance agreement with us, that allows our team, to work very closely their team on training their new team members and ensuring technical issues are solved timely and promptly.

Do you want to know more and how we can assist, making your minibar operations profitable, with a proposal that includes either outright purchase of our minibars, or with a revenue share arrangement, please contact us and I’d be happy to help. We would be then also more than happy to link you up with the minibar champions at the aforementioned hotel.

Our GM recently stayed in a hotel and took this photo (on the left) of the switches and thermostat next to the door.
This hotel opened a couple of years ago.

There is so much wrong here!
The owner must have made a decision to allow this to be installed with all best intentions.

Firstly, the main driver to install an energy saving switch is to - yes - save energy.
But with keycard switches, this is not achieved. Most hotel staff, like in this hotel, leave cards in these switches permanently! They are tired of guests complaining about stuffy rooms, as when removed, these, being a relay without smarts, switch off the AC units altogether.

Secondly, more and more hotel (chains) are offering mobile check in. Keycards are not being used.

Replacing keycard switches with door switches combined with in room PIR sensors is the way to go.

Then, there are 4 other devices and switches on that wall, that can easily be combined into two!

We would have suggested a thermostat such as the Modeva and a light switch underneath.
The Modeva can have DND/MUR buttons incorporated.
These can be interfaced with Housekeeping work flow solutions such as HotSOS and FCS1 to allow the housekeepers to be alerted remotely (and through a corridor light), that a guest has requested MUR.

Beneath the thermostat, we would install a lightswitch panel that has a number of buttons for various lighting scenes and options.

Occupancy is detected through a door switch and a PIR sensor in the room.
Not rocket science, but aesthetically much much better and delivering real energy savings and operational eficciencies resulting in a healthy ROI.

Contact us to discuss your challenges and we can help suggesting the right solution!

We truly have seen it all!

Bad room technology design can make a stay a nightmare.

We do technology and we can offer advice as to how NOT to do it.

We are hotel guests as well and have stayed in hundreds of hotel rooms and have seen and experienced how not to do it, what to avoid and what to enhance.

Talk to us. We're happy to help, it is our passion!

Voice-activated lights. Chatbot concierges. QR codes on television sets. Don’t even get me started with motorised drapes – it’s driving me crazy.
