I heard a story during the week. There are some law firms out there differentiating themselves by saying "we don't use AI, we still do things the traditional way". That's their selling point.

Make no mistake, for those of us analysing the legal market and forecasting which firms will make it in the AI era, this leads to one immediate thought - that's not going to work.

Being traditional is great until your client wants something done urgently, half your team is sick (because, humans) and you've got 45 messages to return about other new matters that just entered the chat.

Law life is a series of peaks and, well, peaks. If you want to compete in the AI-first era, you will need to ditch the tradition and master the AI. As yoda said “you must unlearn what you have learned.”

If you're still pretending AI isn't a remarkable tool for humanity, we need to talk.

I'm unapologetically pro-AI.

Because I've witnessed people at the absolute rock bottom of overwork. Struggling to surface and fighting a long, bleak winter each work day.

I couldn’t imagine a better outcome than finally freeing people from their work shackles because technology can do it for them.

AI is not the enemy. Overwork is. And overwork can cause serious life impacts. The stakes are high.

My parents are medical professionals, and I grew up in hospitals waiting for them to finish their rounds.

Yes, that has nothing to do with the law, but I saw how data and information helped make treatment decisions.

I was the only person in high school who chose to do work experience in the medical records department of a major metropolitan hospital.

I was fascinated by the way data assisted doctors in making more informed recommendations.

Thinking I might go into medicine, I worked in a day surgery during my final year of high school.

Ultimately, being too squeamish to go into medicine, I studied law and behavioural science instead - two other professions that deal with data and information.

During this period, I learned how to conduct research, make predictions, and evaluate situations objectively.

Now I get to do this everyday at AI Legal Assistant and I'm grateful that we are finally in a time when AI is a daily part of our lives.

Thanks to Jacqueline So at Australasian Lawyer for the write-up on my unconventional legal career

I left the law to spend more time with robots and I love it.

So much so that I'm spending this holiday season meeting with humans who need robots to help them perform tasks.

If you are in need of a robot to make your life easier, comment ROBOT and I'll send you my guide.

I cannot promise the robot will be as fluffy as this cutie but it will make your life easier.

A surgeon walks into theatre.

She’s the clinic director. The best surgeon in the hospital.

She tells the patient:
“This is a new technique, but I believe it will work.”

The patient replies:
“Thank you, doctor. I trust your experience.”

The surgery is a success.
The patient pays a premium — for expertise and outcome.

The surgeon doesn’t bill in 6-minute increments.

Yet law firms do.

Clients don’t hire lawyers because they want more hours.

They hire them because they want better judgment, lower risk, and better outcomes.

So why do we still sell time?

What am I missing?

She handed me a note that said...

"Women like you pave the way for women like me and for that I am grateful"

I passed this note along to all the women I thought of when I read it

I hope you pass it along as well
