I've put together something called **the lab** on the website.

It's a showcase of websites, tools and app concepts I build when I'm not working on real projects.

Nothing fancy. Just developing practical ideas

Also if you see a concept that fits your business, it can be customised to you which I will remove from the lab if that is the case

Built a simple time clock for the farm.

We tried bits of paper - they'd get filled in at the end of the week and take ages to enter into a spreadsheet.
We tried spreadsheets - they didn't get filled in, constant reminders.
We tried other apps - expensive and overkill.

So now there's just a tablet on the wall.
Tap to clock in, tap to clock out.

No admin time, all the data in one place, and I can export to PDF or Excel.

WordPress can do anything… if you install enough plugins.

But you don’t need 20+ plugins and a page builder just to have a decent website - especially when half of them come with yearly subscriptions.

A custom built site is just built for your needs.
Less bloat, faster, easier to maintain, and no stack of plugin bills.

That’s what I do.
Build simple websites that work.

Hey, Ben here

A bit of an update on the web dev side of things.

Some of you know I started "Ben's Websites" last year. It was a good learning curve, but I pretty quickly realised the WordPress market is incredibly saturated turns out everyone is doing it 🙄, and I wanted to do something a bit different.

So, I deactivated the page, took a step back to reset, upskill and learn some new tools.

I've relaunched as themilkman.dev. Since I'm a dairy farmer, "The Milkman" was pretty much the only logical choice 🤣

The new direction is less about just making pages, and more about building functional web apps, tools, and custom websites that actually do a job.

I'm steering clear of the standard templates now. Instead, I'm using a modern tech stack that lets me put together actual web applications and websites that feel a lot faster and sharper than what I was doing last year.

Still dairy farming by day, just creating better stuff on the computer by night.
