EyeFly transitions from Custom Made Camera Hardware to Action Cameras
Taupo based technology company EyeFly is no stranger to changing markets. Since it's launch in 2013, the company, who has clients spread across the globe, has experienced an ever changing landscape with Covid having a dramatic impact on it's customer base, staff and strategic direction.
CEO of EyeFly, Tony Brooks, says "the technology sector is constantly evolving, as are the needs of our clients, so the company must ensure it continues to evolve at the same rate to ensure we meet the ever changing needs of the market"
The company spent a number of years developing a custom made camera solution that could withstand the demanding environment of the fast paced Adventure Tourism sector.
Late last year the company decided to investigate the viability of "off the shelf" (retail) action cameras for use with it's current platform.
"The market leaders in this category have development budgets larger than our annual turnover and so it was an obvious choice to piggy back on their research and development. Action cameras are smaller, have incredible functionality and are easy to source anywhere in the world. They are very price competitive and there have been dramatic improvements in their reliability" says Tony
EyeFly developed an Aviation solution for Honolulu based, Rainbow Helicopters, using an "off the shelf" 360 degree action camera to capture the footage, and the results have been dramatic.
The company continues to use and support it's in-house camera solution, which has become an integral part of it's clients operations, but the introduction of action cameras could open up an entirely new sector for this innovative, New Zealand based, business.
