At Northern Marine Electrical, we specialise in the detection and prevention of stray current galvanic corrosion — one of the most damaging and often overlooked issues affecting vessels in both marinas and open ocean
Stray current corrosion can rapidly deteriorate underwater metals such as propellers, shafts, thru-hulls, and anodes, leading to costly repairs and potential safety risks. Unlike natural galvanic corrosion, stray current damage is typically caused by electrical faults either onboard or from external sources such as marina power systems.
We use industry-standard silver/silver chloride reference electrode testing to accurately measure hull potential and identify abnormal electrical activity. This precise method allows us to detect even minor stray currents before they escalate into serious problems.

Unfortunately we have come across a few vessels this year with poorly crimped cable lugs which are intended for carrying Low voltage /High current for long periods of time . Unattended this can lead to faults with the charger/inverter Alternators capstans and even worse a fire hazard with the incorrect fuses and wiring used. If your unsure or having issues give us a call and we can test all the electrical systems

The small house battery aboard this extreme simply wasn't keeping up with all the extra electronics pumps and refrigeration , It Was a no brainer to fit the NZ Lithium 280Xc 12.8v LiFep04 in place paired with victron DC-DC units charging from the twin Honda outboards.

7 years... Thousands of nautical miles later the old FLA workhorses are tired... Great time to upgrade! As this vessel travels its way around the globe the key is it needs to be reliable and easily serviced. The new Victron 300Ah 25.6v NG Lifepo4 battery was the choice with options to double capacity if needed . New solar system paired with a High output Balmar Alternator are on the horizon.
