PickPath has been chosen by Creative Capital Arts Trust (the people behind CubaDupa and New Zealand Fringe Festival) and Wellington City Council to help encourage active transport options for Wellingtonians of all ages to get to this year’s Glover Park Christmas Market on Saturday 29 November.

Creative Director Joel Baxendale has developed a PickPath experience for travellers on the Island Bay cycleways from Island Bay to the city.

“Follow the Island Bay cycleways from Island Bay to Town, helping the hidden residents of Pōneke, the Minikins, with some little errands.

This community art trail celebrates imagination, nature, and exploration. Hidden along the city’s cycle and walking routes are miniature dioramas revealing the secret world of the Minikins, the small, kind-hearted beings of folklore who live quietly alongside humans.

Each tiny scene offers a glimpse into their hidden lives. their homes, workshops and daily routines, all crafted from natural and upcycled materials.”

The PickPath experience, The Mini Lives of Minikins, guides curious Wellingtonians to all of these dioramas before arriving at Glover Park to start the Christmas celebrations.

While the experience is launching on 29 November, it will be available to curious travellers for the entire summer.

PickPath and the Minikins are grateful for the support of Manatū Taonga Ministry for Culture and Heritage and Newtown Community Centre - Te Whare Hapori o Ngā Puna Waiora.

The Anderson Localisation by Afterburner is a new show in the Dunedin Arts Festival that takes the PickPath platform into the quantum realm! Here's co-creator Marty Roberts talking to RNZ about it (and all the other shows he is working on for the festival).

When it comes to innovative performance, designer and theatre maker Martyn Roberts is something of a quiet tour de force. This season he's been juggling work on no less than five new Aotearoa New Zealand shows for the Dunedin Arts Festival.

Check out this new video introducing the Te Huanui a Māui experience that's now available at Te Papa. It shows rangatahi on the experience in the Te Taiao | Nature exhibition and gives you some background on the PickPath platform and what museums, galleries, historic places and tourism organisations can do with it (with a little imagination).

Yesterday, the PickPath team joined our Te Papa colleagues at the entrance to Te Taiao | Nature to officially launch our latest collaboration: Te Huanui a Māui | The Path of Māui.

This interactive mobile experience unlocks the stories within the exhibition – visitors can now explore Te Taiao | Nature through the eyes of Māui, the legendary adventurer, innovator, and shapeshifter. With immersive soundscapes, custom narration, animations, and fun interactive surprises, it’s a whole new way to engage with the exhibition and uncover hidden stories.

We’re thrilled to bring this experience to Te Papa’s visitors, offering fresh perspectives on one of Aotearoa’s most loved exhibitions – all while empowering them with mātauranga to be kaitiaki taiao (protectors of nature).

Scan the QR code at the exhibition entrance to download the free PickPath app and start your journey with Māui – the greatest innovator of them all.
