There's a certain quiet joy in seeing a painting travel from your desk to someone else's wall, especially when that someone is family.

Nishikigoi Flow was a commissioned piece I painted earlier this year, inspired by the fluid, ever-shifting movement of koi in a pond. After working on tighter architectural studies, I wanted this one to breathe differently, looser brushwork, bold reds and oranges moving against deep transparent blues, letting the fish glide freely across the paper the way they do in real ponds.

This piece now lives framed with my Ninang, and honestly, that makes it feel complete in a way that a painting still sitting in my studio never quite does. Grateful for the trust, and for family who believes in this creative path I'm building.

There's something about an arched window that feels more like an invitation than a frame. This one opens onto another coastline I reimagined.

Window Series: No. 02 continues where the first one left off. Found another reference on Pinterest that stopped my scroll instantly, that warm archway framing the sea, and knew I had to paint my own version of it. Same idea as before, one frame at a time, but I wanted to try a different shape this round, the curve at the top changes the whole feeling of looking through it. Softer, older, like a window you'd find somewhere with more history than a modern build.

Two in, and this is starting to feel less like an exercise and more like a habit worth keeping.

This again gave me the opportunity to use the Uhky Uhky Edition watercolours which I plan to use for this entire window series.

I painted this one during the 8th PGW Convention and Exhibit, in a virtual workshop led by Achilles "Uhky Uhky" Estremos, an architect-trained interior designer based in Singapore whose work has this quiet, atmospheric way of simplifying complex urban scenes into something almost meditative. His whole philosophy is that things get easier to understand when you simplify them first, and everything else follows. That mindset shaped how I approached this piece.

I stepped outside my usual minimalist, Japanese-inspired style for this one and let the brushwork stay loose and a little unpredictable, especially around the church's stonework. It's actually my first time really testing the Uhky Uhky Edition watercolours, and the set handled the soft greens and sky washes better than I was expecting for something still fairly new to me.

Officially, this is the Minor Basilica and Parish of Saint Sebastian in Manila, but most of us just know it as San Sebastian Church. Revisiting an old workshop recording turned out to be exactly the nudge I needed to sit down and paint again.

It's been a while since I last picked up a brush, honestly longer than I'd like to admit. What got me back was scrolling through Pinterest and landing on a handful of these colorful architectural windows, the kind that make you want to know what's on the other side. So yesterday afternoon, I finally sat down and painted the first one.

This is Window Series: No. 01, and I'm hoping it turns into a running practice rather than a one-off. One frame at a time feels like a manageable way to stay consistent.

This also gave the Uhky Uhky Edition watercolours a proper second run. Straight from the pan the pigment sits almost like gouache, dense and opaque, but it thins out into a really smooth wash once diluted. That was exactly what I needed to get the warm light spilling through the frame to feel right against the deep blue behind it.
