Terry Eagleton, a Marxist intellectual, said that he wished the term Marxism were already obsolete. Because its continued existence suggests that the problem it seeks to address still remains. A problem of inequality.
There is still a need to make things right. Surely, you have seen that. Perhaps more keenly than others. And you've concluded that the only way to fix this is by Marx's means, which is revolution.
Some are sincere about this. And a good deal are only doing it for the 'gram, for the sense of belongingness and the thrill of being involved in a cause. For others, it certainly seemed fashionable. A costume.
Regardless. All these groups of progressivists are being sold the same illusion.
The injustice exists. The inequality exists. The corruption exists. Your senses and common sense are not lying to you. Marx was right to identify the sickness. But made a wrong diagnosis and prescribed the wrong medicine. Despite what others may say, real Communism has already been tried. Only it never flourished. You can never bring an ideology with rotten seed to mature into a healthy tree. So wherever these revolutions in the name of Fairness happened, only bad things followed.
..Aight. Okay. You've probably heard the aforementioned point a thousand times. Doesn't make it less true, but you're still sold out to the hope of a revolution.
Here's one more thing that you probably already know. Only that it's a pill too hard to swallow.
That you're nothing but a meatshield to your rebel leaders. Those who organize, recruit, and direct you.
It is not coincidental that they will find you useful as a mere piece of the board. Marx has always abhorred the family as a unit and Engels is pretty convinced that it's just another product of Capitalism. The concept of a family is just another ideology that must be thrown out of the way in order to achieve the desired revolution.
Yet you are someone's beloved. Someone's child, sibling, tito, tita, apo... Above all, you possess divine dignity by being made in the image of God. There's a better way to spend your best years, and the rest of your life, than being a political canonball. Where you could be butchered today and be reduced to a slogan tomorrow.
Please do not take this as a lecture. Take this from someone whose kind you may be fighting for. Take this from someone who had to face poverty up close from a very young age.
The problem you see is real. I agree with you. You know the problematic part? The people who are taking advantage of you, from the universities, the mountains, the media, the punditry, the Congress, are well aware that you see this problem too. Your consciousness of the problem is how they get you to be a cog in their machinery.
You see the problem because your Creator has given you the capacity to identify righteousness and wickedness.
That longing for justice is not random. Your anger at evil is not a mirage. These are reflections of the God who made you in His likeness. But the real problem is man's rebellion against this good God, and cannot be satisfied by a system that only rearranges power while leaving the human heart unchanged. You may think it too spiritualized yet all of human misery points to the problem of sin. Behind all the why's of poverty and injustice is nothing but our separation from God because of our sins. All restructuring is meaningless if this is left unaddressed.
"Hmm. Aren't these evangelisms some form of recruitment as well?"
God has no need to recruit you. Nor me. Nor any of us. He is our Lord, and rightful owner of everything that lives and breathes, moves, doesn't move, seen and unseen, in this universe. We can rebel against Him, and add to the misery of mankind. Yet it will not change the fact of His sovereignty over us. It's only a question of where we stand before Him. Do we make right with Him or shall we continue in our sinful rebellion?
Unlike these anti-state anti-capitalist controllers who will win you over only to send you to your demise, God does the opposite.
He sends His Son, to be like us, to carry all the burden of human experience, the poverty, the loneliness, the sorrow. And not just our brokenness, but also the guilt of sinners like you and me. He stood before God, carrying the records of sins of men, and bled for it. Risen to prove to the world that His bleeding has made things right. Jesus is God's peace offering to the world who has turned away from Him, and is in danger of His wrath.
If you truly want to be of service to your neighbor, I won't tell you to look away from their suffering. But I would tell you to look deeper. Deeper than politics, systems, and ideologies. The human heart. In Christ, this can be made new. As He is making all things new. And in due time, all things will be made new.
Why persist in becoming a political apparatus? Why be a pawn when the King of kings died for someone like you? When you can serve the Lord of Glory in a mission of cosmic proportion?
Christ is the only Lord who has first given Himself for us before He asks of us. And He will change the world, better than any imaginable utopia, one soul at a time.
