1. Mobile Meter Reading System
Another recent initiative that has been undertaken by PITC is bringing effectiveness and efficiency in meter reading systems for discos. In this regard, a Mobile App has been introduced for the consumption of DISCO’s meter reading staff. The following are features of the application:
State-of-the-art transformation from manual meter reading process to automated meter reading. Mobile (Android) based apps and Handheld devices are both equally effective. Ease of use for meter reading staff. Printing of MR pictures on consumer bills results in the reduction of wrong meter reading complaints. A step toward reducing the billing cycle time. Uplift of overall power sector image. Reliance on 100% internal resources.
2. Billing Dashboards
Ministry of Energy (Power Division) is required to have an online management information system containing daily information regarding the performance of DISCOs. PITC developed a dashboard named “DISCO’s Efficiency Monitoring System”. This facilitation is providing the following features to Ministry and DISCOs:
On single click access to the overall progress of a DISCO. Daily and monthly progress (%age) of individual DISCO and overall. Monthly and progressive T&D, Distribution, and AT&C Losses. Data comparison (current month, previous month, last year current month). Projected billing amount of a month. Target setting and achievement. Age-wise status of meters. Mobile meter reading installation. Due Date-wise billing and collection.
3. Load Management Dashboard
As per the requirement given by the Ministry of Energy (Power Division), PITC has developed a Feeder wise Load Management Dashboard for all DISCO(s). This provides Ministry and other authorities facility to monitor and analyze load management activity as per the given schedule. With its enhanced graphical analytics, this dashboard makes management to quickly analyze the efficiency and transparency of activities of feeders. This facilitation is providing the following features to Ministry and DISCOs:
Single click access to the overall load management analysis of a DISCO
Daily and monthly data analysis of individual DISCO and overall
Data comparison (current month, previous month)
Pi Charts to compare load shedding with the actual plan
Specified category of feeders e.g. Industrial etc. An added feature of PDF reports to print and submit to authority
4. Open-Architecture-based AMI Enterprise Landscape:
USAID’s SEP objective is to Employ a systematic methodology for utility turnaround and performance improvements at electricity distribution companies, delivering a significant reduction in AT&C losses, improvements in operational performance and financial sustainability, and effectively enhancing the value of the DISCOs for eventual privatization. As a part of the solution, SEP in consultation with all the stakeholders (PEPCO, NEPRA, PITC, DISCOs, AMR meter manufacturers, AMI vendors, and NTDC’s Standards & Specification Department) has designed and developed standardized specifications for Universal Data Integration Layer (UDIL) database structure, views, commands, and controls. Such a vendor-independent plug-and-play arrangement will help DISCOs to procure smart meters through competitive bidding leading to the most cost-effective AMI deployment.
