In February and March of 1953, Majlis-e-Ahrar demanded the dismissal of Muhammad Zafarullah Khan, an Ahmadi and the then Foreign Minister of Pakistan. Khawaja Nazimuddin's (the then PM) refusal to do so led to fierce protests in Lahore. Lahore saw loss of life, arson, destruction and military takeover as martial law was declared across the city.
