In 6 years of working with marketing teams and designing campaigns for brands across different industries, one debate never goes away.
Static or video. Which one actually works on Meta.
And honestly, I used to have a strong opinion on this. Then I watched enough campaigns run, enough budgets get split and enough results come in to realize the answer is never that simple.
Video is powerful. I have seen it transform cold audiences, build brand recall from zero and stop the scroll in ways a single image simply cannot. When a brand is new, when a product needs to be seen in action or when the story needs more than one frame, video earns its budget.
But I have also seen static ads quietly outperform video in campaigns where it mattered most. Retargeting campaigns. Direct response offers. Flash sales. Situations where the audience already knows the brand and just needs a clear reason to click. Static delivers that faster, cheaper and with a lower cost per acquisition almost every time.
The numbers back this up. Video drives higher click through rates on average. But static costs 38% less per 1000 impressions, converts better at the bottom of the funnel and lets you test 10 creative angles in the time it takes to produce one video.
The best marketing teams I have worked with never argued about which format is better. They asked which format is right for this stage of the funnel, this audience and this budget.
That is the whole game.
