👋 We asked Rafał, our CTO, a few straight questions.

💻 Why do you still write code instead of just managing the team?

For two reasons. First, practice always beats theory. Research and staying up to date with technology trends are an important part of a CTO's work, but you only gain a full understanding of a topic when you actually implement it in practice.

Second, the best way to support the team and help it grow is by being part of it. Especially at the beginning of a project.

📅 What does a typical day look like for you?

I'm not sure there is such a thing as a typical CTO day, but if I had to name a few regular parts, I'd say keeping up with tech trends: newsletters, blogs, Reddit, LinkedIn, etc., and making sure I reserve time for the projects I'm directly involved in. I still see myself primarily as a tech lead, just with a slightly broader scope of responsibilities.

⚖️ What's the hardest part of being a CTO at a 25-person company?

Not so much the hardest as the most painful: choosing priorities. Everyone has a limited amount of time, and no matter how much you want to, you can't do everything yourself. That's why building a team of people you can rely on matters so much.

🏆 What are you especially proud of lately?

Recently, I'd say developing our internal tools. The most satisfying moment is when you see something genuinely change everyday work: fewer bugs, better performance, and a smoother developer experience. Of course, not every idea hits the mark, but the ones that do can make a real difference. These are the kinds of investments (right after investing in people and their skills) that build a real competitive edge.
