🔓 Open-source firmware hits a new milestone! GIGABYTE enterprise motherboards are at the center of it!
Led by firmware consultancy 3mdeb, AMD openSIL combined with Coreboot open-source firmware has successfully run on the GIGABYTE MZ33-AR1 motherboard supporting AMD EPYC 9005 series processors. Making it the first testable open-source firmware stack on Zen 5 generation hardware.
Demand for open-source firmware is growing fast, especially in hyperscale data centers and security-sensitive deployments where transparency, faster boot times, and a reduced attack surface have become critical selection criteria.
Phoronix testing also confirmed that Dasharo (a Coreboot downstream) can be flashed directly via the GIGABYTE motherboard's BMC interface, significantly lowering the barrier to adoption.
