The mission of Business Reporting Advisory Group is to build efficient and stable regulatory data environments and governance. We stay up-to-date with regulatory standards and collaborate with clients in the process of raising compliance levels and digitization of data services. We engage in discussions on how to apply state of the art technology to proactively address some of the core issues in t

he financial data field, including lowering reporting burden, increasing public trust towards business data and services, or tackling data sharing constraints. We collaborate with financial institutions, regulatory and public sector organizations, fintech companies, as well as reporting entities on both national and cross-national levels. In over 11 years, we have delivered more than 60 projects globally. Our clients include European Commission, Bank of England, Deutsche Bundesbank, Bank of Spain, the Danish Business Authority, Securities Commission of Malaysia, Australian Treasury, as well as European Union organizations such as the European Banking Authority, the European Insurance and Occupational Pensions Authority and The European Securities and Markets Authority among others. We offer consulting and data modelling services, advice, hands-on workshops and training sessions to assist our clients in the adoption and maintenance of technical standards and data management. Our core activity areas include: financial regulations (i.e. Solvency II Basel Accord, MiFIR, MiFID II, SFTR, ESEF, AnaCredit, BCBS239), data model development (i.e. Data Point Model methodology and SMCube), market architectures (Trade Repositories, ARM’s, OAM’s), implementation and quality assurance of technical standards and identifiers (XBRL, ISO20022, SDMX, LEI, UPI, UTI), as well as application of cutting-edge IT technologies to make the processing and analysing data faster, safer and more transparent (i.e. Following our goals to build trusted, open data ecosystems, we have designed three agile platforms which rely on collaboration and shareability. Data Modeller is an environment that allows for real-time collaboration in the process of building and editing data models and taxonomies and exporting them immediately to multiple formats, including XBRL, SQL, JSON, SDMX, ISO20022 and API. The Reporting Tool Kit platform (RTK) allows users to load data models and prepare advanced XBRL reports with automatically integrated, or manually input data, verified by advanced quality assurance and validation function. Our third platform, Litix, provides users with easy access to financial reports of entities from around the world, filed in XBRL format. Thanks to Litix, users can not only view, but also analyse and compare financial data, access customized, aggregated information on demand, and acquire the data in the JSON format for further processing. All our tools are equipped with built on Open API’s which allow for fast and easy data sharing, in line with our mission of creating an open and transparent data environment.

We are very pleased to have Mirosław Sopek, Vice President of the Board at MakoLab as a speaker at TODE 2016 conference.

Mirek Sopek graduated from the Faculty of Technical Physics and Applied Mathematics of the Technical University of Łódź with the title of Master of Science in Technical Physics, and in 1992 he obtained the PhD in Chemical Sciences (Theoretical Chemistry) at the Faculty of Chemistry of the Technical University of Łódź.

Between 1983 and 1992, he was lecturer in the Institute of Applied Radiation Chemistry of the Technical University of Łódź. In 1989 he created MakoLab – at first a small business operating in the field of digital publishing, transformed later into a web-oriented company. Between 1996 and 2000 he worked abroad, first as developer in HyperCube (Waterloo, Canada), then as director of IT projects and system designer in HyperCube Inc. in Gainseville, Florida (US).

In 2007 he transformed MakoLab into a joint stock company and led its IPO on the NewConenct market of the Warsaw Stock Exchange. He was first President of the Board of MakoLab S.A. Since March, 7th 2007, he has been vice-President of the Board. Parallel to his work in business, he is also active in scientific and educational domains. Between 1992 and 1995 he was an adjunct professor in the Institute of Applied Radiation Chemistry of the Technical University of Łódź, while from 2000 he was an adjunct professor in the Academy of Humanities and Economics Łódź, where, between 2002 and 2009, he led the faculty of e-commerce.

Since 2009 Mirek Sopek has led “mSemantic” – MakoLab’s Semantic Web-oriented division. In this capacity, he rendered MakoLab the primary source of expertise for automotive and e-commerce applications of Semantic Technologies. Since 2012, Mirek Sopek supervises the annual conference devoted to Semantic Technologies entitled MSD (MakoLab Semantic Day), organized annually in Paris.

In mid-2013, he became the President of Chemical Semantics, Inc. – the company created jointly by MakoLab and an American partner in Gainesville Florida.

Since September 2013, Mirek Sopek leads MakoLab’s cooperation with EDMC (Enterprise Data Management Council). The cooperation is primarily focused on Semantic Technologies for the financial industry, with strong emphasis on FIBO – Financial Industry Business Ontology. In parallel, Mirek is active in the area of semantic technologies for automotive industries. In this capacity he, together with his co-workers contributed greatly to the automotive extension for schema.org (a web scale vocabulary run by major search engines including Google) that became public in 2015.

We are honoured to have John Turner, CEO of XBRL International as a speaker at TODE 2016 conference.

John Turner has been the CEO of XBRL International for the last 2 years, but has been involved with the standard almost from its inception.

He comes to the role with a unique set of perspectives.

From Sydney he’s run data collection and data collection re-engineering from within APRA, the Australian financial regulator.

From London and the US he led a multidisciplinary team at KPMG International that worked on the XBRL standard and with regulators around the world on regulatory data collections.

From Oxford, he cofounded and was for 6 years the CEO of CoreFiling, one of the leading global XBRL software players, and more recently he’s worked with a variety of data-led startups operating internationally.

We are honoured to have Karla McKenna, Chair of ISO/TC 68 - Financial Services as a speaker at TODE 2016 conference.

Karla McKenna is an international standards specialist in the area of financial services. Ms. McKenna is director of Market Practice and Standards at Citi and in this role drives development and adoption of financial services standards for Citi’s Securities businesses.

Within the industry, Ms. McKenna is Chair of the International Organization for Standardization Technical Committee 68 (ISO/TC 68), Financial Services, Chair of the Securities Market Practice Group (SMPG), and serves on the Board and Executive Committee of Accredited Standards Committee X9 (ASC X9). Ms. McKenna also has served on the Boards of the International Securities Association for Institutional Trade Communication (ISITC) and XBRL International.

In May 2015, Ms. McKenna began a secondment to the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation (GLEIF) as the Head of Standards for the GLEIF. In this role, Ms. McKenna is responsible for facilitating the development and implementation of GLEIF standards and leveraging international standards from organizations such as the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) to maximize data quality and the operational integrity of the Global LEI System (GLEIS).
