What skills help QA engineers grow from Junior to Middle and Senior levels? 🤔

According to our QA team members, Dmitry, QA Lead, and Maria, QA Engineer, it’s not about the number of courses you’ve taken or certificates you’ve collected.

The key difference lies in the ability to think critically, make informed decisions, and solve real-life challenges. A Middle QA doesn’t simply follow test cases. They assess risks, determine what should be tested and automated, collaborate with developers to investigate issues, and take responsibility for product quality.

We asked Dmitry and Maria which books helped shape their approach and support their professional growth. Here are their recommendations:

📚 Just Enough Software Test Automation by Daniel J. Mosley
→ understanding what, when, and how to automate
📚 Agile Testing by Lisa Crispin
→ building a testing mindset and strong collaboration within Agile teams
📚 Explore It! by Elisabeth Hendrickson
→ exploratory testing and analytical thinking
📚 Lessons Learned in Software Testing by Cem Kaner, James Bach, Bret Pettichord
→ practical testing methods, risk assessment, and lessons from real projects
📚 Clean Code by Robert C. Martin
→ writing maintainable, readable, and scalable automation code

These books go beyond tools and frameworks. They help develop the skills that often define Middle and Senior QA engineers: critical thinking, decision-making, risk awareness, communication, and a deeper understanding of software quality.

What books would you add to this list? 📖

Last week, part of the Symfa team visited the UK office of one of our global insurance clients in London 🇬🇧

During the trip, Andrey, Delivery Director, Ihar, Key Account Manager, and Dmitry, Delivery Manager, spent several days onsite with the client team. The visit focused on strengthening day-to-day collaboration, aligning on future initiatives, and having valuable conversations with the people driving delivery and technology decisions on both sides.

During several onsite sessions, the teams discussed:
• AI-enabled delivery approaches
• scaling technology and product initiatives
• faster technical decision-making
• collaboration between business and engineering teams
• opportunities for future innovation and R&D collaboration

Being a remote team, we aim to travel to client’s onsite meetings as those remain one of the most effective ways to bridge communication gaps. Face-to-face discussions create faster feedback loops, improve alignment, and help teams solve complex challenges more efficiently than remote communication alone.

These conversations directly impact delivery outcomes:
→ faster brainstorming and technical validation
→ quicker alignment on priorities
→ accelerated feature and product releases
→ stronger long-term partnership between teams

At Symfa, we invest in relationships, transparency, and shared ownership. Strong partnerships are built through consistent communication, trust, and the ability to work through challenges together.

Our clients operate globally across the US, Europe, and Asia. That gives our teams opportunities to collaborate internationally, travel onsite, and work closely with product and engineering teams around the world.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in preparing and making this visit happen 💚

Your future work bestie might be somewhere in this post 🥰

We’re currently hiring for three remote positions at Symfa, all on long-term international projects in the Insurance and Healthcare domains 🌍

➡️ Lead Data Engineer (Azure, DWH)
Join a strategic insurance project focused on building a modern cloud-based Data Warehouse to replace legacy reporting and month-end processes. The role combines hands-on engineering, technical leadership, delivery planning, architecture decisions, and direct collaboration with the client.
Tech stack: Azure Synapse, PySpark, SQL, Data Lake, enterprise DWH architecture, and large-scale data modeling.

➡️ Senior AI Engineer (Python + React)
Become part of a high-impact healthcare product team developing an AI-powered platform for medical providers in the US. The product leverages AI-driven automation and conversational interfaces to streamline clinical workflows, improve patient communication, simplify insurance coordination, and reduce administrative workload for doctors.
Tech stack: Python, React, distributed systems, APIs, and AI/LLM-based technologies.

➡️ Middle Business System Analyst
Join a long-term insurance data processing project for a US client. You’ll work on validating and reconciling insurance data feeds, investigating discrepancies, supporting migration to a new ingestion platform, and collaborating closely with stakeholders and engineering teams.
Focus areas: SQL, data quality, reconciliation, insurance processes, and business analysis.

What you’ll find at Symfa:

✔️ Remote-first environment
✔️ Long-term global projects
✔️ Direct communication with international clients
✔️ Opportunities to grow both technically and professionally
✔️ Occasional business trips and onsite collaboration
✔️ Complex products with real business impact

Tired of fixing AI-generated code? 👀

Our Tech Lead Tatiana recently shared an interesting article with us about a growing idea in tech right now: Spec-Driven Development (SDD)

The idea is pretty simple: before asking AI to generate code, developers first define clear requirements, logic, flows, and expectations for the feature. In other words, AI becomes a tool working inside a structured process. Many engineers already notice the same thing in practice: the better the context and specifications are, the better the AI results become

This approach could seriously change the development process:
☑️ less chaos in AI-generated code
☑️ better architecture and maintainability
☑️ more focus on analytical thinking and decision-making

Looks like the role of developers is slowly shifting from “writing every line manually” to designing systems, thinking through logic, and effectively guiding AI tools. It’s interesting to see how development processes continue evolving together with AI

Is AI making development more structured or more chaotic so far? Do you already use AI differently compared to a year ago? What do you think?

We recently brought our teams together across different countries for a Brain Quiz Night 🧠

Colleagues joined from our offices and online, some teams played side by side, others connected remotely, and many mixed both formats. No matter the setup, the energy was amazing!

Big congratulations to our winners: team Potashovka! 🎉

And we’re already looking forward to our next events. See you there!

At Symfa, our team lives and works across 20+ countries. And every place comes with its own little surprises, sometimes even culture shocks. So we thought, why not share them?

This time it’s a story from Mariia, our Junior QA Engineer living near Poznań 🇵🇱

“In Poland, most shops are closed on Sundays. Completely. At first it feels inconvenient, and then you realize the whole country just slows down for a day. And somehow it starts to feel right 😊”

Swipe through to see what surprised Mariia after moving to Poland 👀

What surprised you the most after moving abroad? 🙌🏻
