One of my latest projects: personal branding for Karol Tomas:

Karol is a young man, rich in ambition. He asked me to design his visual identity. — I started to experimenting with K & T letters. Next I decided to design simple personal branding based on geometric shapes and good typeface.

Nadodrze is an old merchant district in the center of Wrocław. Since 2004 it’s been undergoing some revitalization processes, as a result of which a lot of art galleries, studios, unusual cafes and other interesting places are opening there. All the while there are still some traditional craft workshops left – shoemakers, framers and upholsterers.

Artistic Nadodrze is a project that connects new places and traditional gems of the district. It also connects people who want to do something and change their environment for the better, as well as those who have years of experience.

The project’s brand identity started with the neon sign of the local railway station – Wrocław Nadodrze. Based on the shapes of those letters studio Pillcrow has designed a typeface in two variants. The first one (regular) emulates the traditional shape of the neon letters. The second (shadow) is a reference to the spatial block of the neon and contains additional alternative glyphs (taken from the local lettering traditions). Over the last few years various projects have been completed – from an audiowalk telephone booth, through publications, to the graphic design of the main event – Nadodrze Night.

Nadodrze to stara kupiecka dzielnica w centrum Wrocławia. Od 2004 r. przechodzi proces rewitalizacji. W wyniku tego otwiera się tu mnóstwo galerii sztuki, pracowni, niecodziennych kawiarni i innych ciekawych miejsc. Z drugiej strony nadal działają tu tradycyjne zakłady rzemieślnicze – szewski, ramiarski czy tapicerski.

Artystyczne Nadodrze to projekt, który łączy zarówno miejsca świeże, jak i te tradycyjne perełki. Łączy również ludzi – tych, którzy chcą działać i zmieniać otoczenie na lepsze, jak i tych, którzy posiadają lata doświadczeń.

Punktem wyjścia do stworzenia identyfikacji wizualnej stał się neon dworca kolejowego Wrocław Nadodrze – na bazie tych liter studio Pillcrow zaprojektowało krój pisma w dwóch odmianach. Pierwsza (regular) odwzorowuje tradycyjny kształt liter neonu. Druga (shadow) odwołuje się do przestrzennej bryły liter neonu i dodatkowo zawiera alternatywne glify (zaczerpnięte również z tradycji lokalnego liternictwa). Przez kilka lat funkcjonowania identyfikacji powstały różne projekty – od budki telefonicznej audiospaceru, przez publikacje, aż po oprawę graficzną Nocy Nadodrza – sztandarowej imprezy tej dzielnicy.

The estate in Ochla – a district of Zielona Góra – was built in 2001. Its owner is a businessman who decided to sell the property after some years, a decision which required the right strategy.

As part of the project a large floorplan of the villa (illustrated by Zuza Wollny) and a 36-page album showcasing the garden and the house were created. The main graphic motif used in the publication was inspired by the octagon of the orangery – the heart of the house. The whole design was digitally printed and screen printed on Munken Polar Rough and Via Linen paper and packed in elegant felt covers. Several refinement methods were used – embossing, UV varnish and hot stamping. Another motif used was the villa owner's coat of arms which was reproduced digitally straight from the embroidery stitch.

The publication was made using the Bona Nova typeface by Mateusz Machalski, a digital version of Bona by Andrzej Heidrich, the designer of the Polish banknotes.

Posiadłość w Ochli – dzielnicy Zielonej Góry – wybudowana została w 2001 roku. Jej właścicielem jest biznesmen, który po latach postanowił sprzedać majątek. To przedsięwzięcie wymagało dobrej oprawy.

W ramach projektu powstał duży (ilustrowany przez Zuzę Wollny) plan willi oraz 36-stronicowy album prezentujący ogród i dom. Główny motyw graficzny zastosowany wewnątrz publikacji został zainspirowany ośmiobokiem oranżerii – serca domu. Całość została wydrukowana cyfrowo i sitodrukiem na papierach Munken Polar Rough oraz Via Linen i zapakowana w elegancki filcowy pokrowiec. Zastosowano kilka różne metody uszlachetniania – tłoczenie, lakier UV, hotstamping.
Dodatkowym motywem jest herb właściciela willi, który został odtworzony w wersji cyfrowej wprost ze ściegu hafciarskiego.

Publikacja została złożona krojem Bona Nova – zdygitylizowaną przez Mateusza Machalskiego wersją kroju Bona autorstwa Andrzeja Heidricha, projektanta polskich banknotów.
