On August 2, the EU AI Act deadline everyone prepared for becomes a much smaller deadline than expected. That is exactly why teams are going to miss it.
In June, Parliament approved the Digital Omnibus amendments, moving most high-risk obligations to December 2027 and August 2028. A lot of engineering and legal teams read that as “we have another year.”
Article 50 transparency duties were not delayed. Disclosure is a UI decision. Machine-detectable marking is a pipeline decision. Documenting human review is an audit-trail decision and audit trails are not something you retrofit in a sprint.
An extension of time is not a relaxation of the obligation. The teams treating December 2027 as the new starting line will be doing in eleven weeks what should have taken eleven months.
