A weekend away with the whole team.

Sometimes, the best team-building happens outside the office. A change of place, a little adventure, endless laughter, and memories that stay long after the trip is over.

This trip was more than just travelling, it was about connecting as a team, experiencing new things, and enjoying the people we work with every day. We even went back to the early 2000s for one night, glitter and all.
Grateful for the experiences, the conversations, the crazy moments, and most importantly, the people who made the journey memorable.

For a waste company, an unlogged bin is a bill that never gets sent.

One regional operator tracked every collection with RFID scanners on its trucks. Misaligned tags and bad weather meant bins were regularly emptied without a record. Some pickups also went unreported in the field, and nobody knew which ones.

We built a computer vision system that runs alongside the RFID setup. Cameras on the trucks count every bin as it's loaded and geotag each pickup.

Comparing the two sources caught the missed pickups and exposed the hotspots where they kept happening. Leadership now plans routes on accurate data and knows where to look when the numbers don't match.

The RFID system stayed. It just stopped being the only source of truth.

On Friday evening we joined CUBE by the Lake at Tarnița, an event bringing together clients, partners and the teams from the eight companies that make up CUBE.

What made it worthwhile was the format. There were no presentations and no agenda, which left room for the kind of conversations that rarely happen in a meeting room. We talked with people we have worked with for years and met others for the first time, and in a few cases found out we had been solving the same problem from two different directions.

The best time to know your options is before you need them.

That's really why most people are in the Zega community. They've got good jobs and they're not planning to leave, but they like knowing what's out there, because the day you actually have to start looking is the worst possible day to begin finding out.

So they keep half an eye on the senior roles that come through, with none of the pressure that comes with job hunting. Most of the time nothing changes. Every so often something worth a proper look lands in front of them, and they got to see it without ever going looking.
