GDPR regulators have been busy. They issued hundreds of fines to companies, including Google and Facebook, more than €114 million in the first 20 months of GDPR.

The EU General Data Protection Regulation went into effect on May 25, 2018, replacing the Data Protection Directive 95/46/EC. Designed to increase data privacy for EU citizens, the regulation levies steep fines on organizations that don’t follow the law.

In July this year, the European Union adopted a general data protection regulation ( ). All documents that are in public access to municipal institutions should be anonymous.
In cooperation with our Dutch partners, we have created a solution for mass semi-automatic anonymization of documents.
The system recognizes and extracts text data from PDF files of municipal institutions of the Netherlands, on the basis of a reference database of proper names, geographical names, finds occurrences of such data in documents and removes them from both the text layer and the image in PDF files.
To ensure high quality of anonymization, the system has a manual control stage before the export of anonymous documents. The system is developed on the basis of our existing product Book Scan Processing and provides the simultaneous operation of a large number of operators. At the moment we are deploying processing on 24 computers, which should process about 1 million documents in two weeks.
