According to a McKinsey report,

- An offshore oil and gas business reportedly employed predictive maintenance technology to cut downtime by 20%, which increased production by more than 500,000 oil barrels yearly.

- Predictive maintenance is a complex process and there are a lot of challenges while implementing predictive maintenance in the oil and gas industry.

- The upstream, middle, and downstream operations of the oil and gas sector all make use of outdated equipment that is at least 15 years old.

Therefore, routine inspection and maintenance procedures are necessary to keep them in working order. Such reactive maintenance, however, doesn't provide any assurance against unanticipated downtime.
