Samsung Galaxy S22 Plus and S22 Provide Slight Performance Upgrade Over Predecessors

This time it might be hard to differentiate the S22 and S22 Plus from their 2021 predecessor given how Samsung has generally reused the S21 and S21 Plus’ design language for them.

That being said, the IP68-certified S22 and S22 Plus chassis are actually made from Armor Aluminium just like the Galaxy S22 Ultra. Similarly, their front and rear areas are being protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass Victus+ while the colour of the camera housing now closely follows the body’s colourway as well which made their exterior look more seamless.

Speaking about the camera, both models are equipped with the same triple camera module which includes a 50MP f/1.8 Dual Pixel camera alongside a 12MP f/2.2 ultra-wide camera and 10MP telephoto camera that has 3x optical zoom capabilities. Samsung has also implemented a new feature for videography called Auto Framing that can detect & track up to 10 people and then dynamically adjust the camera’s focus to fit all of them together.

Of course, let’s not forget that both Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus has also been equipped with a 10MP f/2.2 selfie camera which is being housed on the centre top part of their display. In case you are wondering, the S22 Plus has a 6.6-inch display while the S22 comes with a 6.1-inch display although both still use the same Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel which has a variable refresh rate between 10Hz to 120Hz as well as an ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

Just like the S22 Ultra, Samsung refers to the chip inside S22 and S22 Plus as the “4nm processor” although the actual processor is either Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Samsung’s own Exynos 2200 depending on respective markets. 8GB of RAM comes as standard on both models while customers can choose to have them with 128GB or 256GB storage.

Meanwhile, the S22 Plus has been equipped with a 4500mAh battery and is able to support chargers with power ratings of up to 45W. On another hand, the S22’s battery is slightly smaller at 3,700mAh and can only support chargers of up to 25W.

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Hands On: A Note In “S” Clothes

After a torrent of leaks, rumours, and itchy publishing fingers from within its ranks, Samsung’s Galaxy S22 family of smartphones is finally official. Spearheading the charge is, naturally, the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the series’ flagship and top-of-the-line model of the three.

Just as the rumours and whispers had initially suggested, Samsung is clearly reusing a familiar design for the S22 Ultra. Specifically, its design mimics that of the Galaxy Note20 Ultra to the point that it is almost identical, save for some changes in the main camera department and internal hardware, naturally. That brings us nicely into the next part: the hardware powering up the phone.

Finally the S22 Ultra variant that we’re getting will be rocking Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC, and not Samsung’s latest Exynos 2200 SoC that also features AMD’s RDNA2 graphics cores.

OnePlus CEO Confirms OnePlus 10 Pro Launch In January 2022

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau has confirmed that the successor to the OnePlus 9 series will be unveiled in January. Lau recently posted on Chinese social platform Weibo, “OnePlus 10 Pro, see you in January,” but did not reveal a specific date.

This seems to coincide with the 5 January launch date for the OnePlus 10 Pro claimed by leakster Max Jambor. If the leak is to be believed, the phone will debut in Las Vegas on the same day that the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) kicks off.

There is also a rumour that OnePlus will only debut one model for the 10 series this time. It’s an interesting rumour, given that OnePlus usually has a base model, a pro model, and a cheaper “T” variant, though the OnePlus 9T was cancelled this year.

As for specs, an earlier leak claims that the OnePlus 10 Pro will sport a 6.7-inch AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, a triple camera array, and is confirmed to run on the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. It’s also expected to run on a new unified global operating system, following the merger of OnePlus and OPPO.

Dark Theme Finally Arrives On The Desktop Version Of Google Search

Google recently announced that it has officially added dark mode (or Dark Theme, as the company puts it) on its search page on desktop. The feature, as most of us are familiar with by now, replaces the traditional white background on the website with a darker theme that is more eye-friendly, especially when viewing in low-light conditions.

As with most similar functions that are available on other websites and certain apps, users are first required to manually activate Dark Theme on Google Search desktop. For this, first head over to www.google.com and then click on the Settings button on the bottom right of the screen. From there, click on Dark Theme to activate it and you’re all set. It’s also worth noting that unlike Google Chrome’s dark mode, enabling the feature via Google Search’s homepage will also apply Dark Theme to its search engine’s results pages.

Keep in mind that you will have to open Google Search by using the URL mentioned above, as the Settings menu will not appear in the New Tab version of the page. For those using multiple web browsers, you are also required to manually activate the mode by following the same steps on each one.

Dark Theme’s arrival on the desktop version of Google Search is late, but is still welcomed nonetheless. This greatly helps to conserve battery life for portable computers, and to reduce eye strain for those browsing the web or are working under not-so-ideal lighting conditions – not that we encourage such lifestyles, of course. Hopefully the theme would also soon make its way to the company’s other web-based services such as GMail, Docs, and so on.

Apple’s Next Launch Event To Take Place On 14 September

For the past week or two, there have been rampant rumours claiming that Apple has planned to have a special launch event this month. True enough, the company has just officially announced the date for its next event.

According to the media invite as well as its US website, the event is scheduled to take place at 10:00 AM PDT on 14 September which is equivalent to 1:00 AM Singapore time on 15 September. This round of Apple’s special event will once again take place virtually as the threat of COVID-19 is still at large throughout the world.

Greg Joswiak, the company’s Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing tweeted a short clip to mark the occasion. The clip is essentially a demonstration of the AR feature that you can activate through your iPhone and iPad by tapping the glowing Apple logo on the event section of Apple US website.

It is really hard to guess what Apple is trying to hint through the images and AR easter egg that accompanied today’s announcement. However, the “California streaming” tagline does remind us of a very famous song from the 1960s, California Dreamin’ which was made famous by The Mamas and The Papas.

At the moment, among new products that are expected to be revealed at the upcoming event includes iPhone 13 (or iPhone 12s, depending on who you ask), Apple Watch Series 7, and next-generation AirPods. Expect to hear more rumours as they make their way into the Internet, now that there is only one week to go before the event takes place.

WhatsApp May Soon Allow Hiding Last Seen Status From Specific Individuals

While people are naturally more concerned about the double blue ticks, WhatsApp has another privacy feature in the form of the Last Seen status. Like the blue ticks, you can either let everyone see it, or no one at all. But the messaging app may be working to change that, allowing users to hide it from specific individuals.

WABetaInfo reports that the feature is currently in development. In an iOS screenshot, the privacy setting has a new option that reads “My Contacts Except…”. This is in addition to the existing three, which are Everyone, My Contacts, and Nobody.

By default, it would probably be rare that the basic My Contacts option sees any use. But with exceptions, you will at least have the option to, for example, hide your Last Seen status from professional contacts if you use the same number for work as you do your private life.

As is usually the case, there’s no indication as to when this new privacy option will go live. For what it’s worth, it will likely show up on both iOS and Android versions of WhatsApp. But again, it’s always possible that both platforms get the new option at different dates.
