PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: New WhatsApp Takeover Scam

This is how it works...

1. The scammer will try to login to your Whatsapp repeatedly using the wrong password until your account gets locked out
2. WhatsApp will try to call you to tell you and give you a new PIN
3. If you don't pick up the call, the call from WhatsApp goes to your voicemail
4. The scammer will login to your voicemail (it has a default password like 0000) and then retrieve the WhatsApp PIN
5. The scammer will then use the WhatsApp PIN to take over your WhatsApp account

The Police would like to alert the public to two new variants of scam involving the takeover of WhatsApp accounts.
