Differences Between OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4 & OM5 Multimode Fibers
Fiber optic cable includes single mode fiber and multimode fiber.
Multimode fiber cables are divided into OM1, OM2, OM3, OM4, OM5. What’s their difference? OM1 and OM2 are designed to support 1G and 10G network. A link of a 1000BASE-SX SFP over an OM2 fiber can reach up to 550 meters. OM3 and OM4 are designed to support 40G and 100G. OM4 cable with a QSFP 40G SR4 or a QSFP28 100G SR4, distances will be 150m and 100m. To save fiber in a high-speed network, OM5 is introduced to support 200G and 400G.
