Hey, do you want to see the results from my last video? You know, the one with D1 resolution, compression artefacts, a faded image, blurry recording, noise, and "glittering" pixels. And then there's the smoke, which moves slowly and sideways. Put simply, it's everything that goes against all the rules for image analysis and smoke detection. I tested six different manufacturers on things - like how quickly they could detect things, how many false positives and false negatives there were, what hardware you needed, the interface and licensing. All this for our customer to choose the best solution there is.
If you want to try out your solution, just send me a private message and I'll send you the original video.

I genuinely like it when an AI analytics vendor gives you proper “camera guidelines”. Yes, they are there for a reason. Predictable behaviour, repeatable results, fewer “it depends” conversations.
Then, when I test smoke and fire detection, I do the opposite :D
On purpose. Because real sites are messy, and cameras rarely look like the brochure. And I like to be prepared and know the limitations of the solution I suggest.
Here is a clip from today’s tests, whitish glare, clouds, slow smoke, grain, low resolution, aggressive compression, and lovely artefacts. Perfect :)
So, straight question for any smoke detection AI out there.
How fast would you raise an alarm on this, and how do you prove it was a real detection, not a lucky guess?

'HIKVISION HAD A BACKDOOR!' No, they didn't. So, what happened was a fascinating case study. It was called 'Why replacing one senior programmer with four juniors is not a cost-saving measure'. Just think about how much Hik lost in the US and Europe with this one move.

Nie, to nie był backdoor do Hikvision - to po prostu papudrackie podejście do oprogramowania. Tak wygląda piramida jakości kodu:1. Senior 2. Mid3. Junior4. ...

Too blurry for comfort? Challenge accepted!
At CCTVnerds, we frequently get that classic 'Can you enhance it?' request—grainy snapshots and practically invisible faces or license plates. Here’s the honest truth: if the data isn’t there (hello, 3 pixels?), no amount of ‘CSI zoom’ will magically reveal details. But… if we do have enough frames, a decent theoretical resolution, and we know both the camera’s shutter speed and the moving object’s velocity—well, that’s where our nerdy math magic kicks in!

We cross-checked the plate in an insurance database—brand matched, data confirmed, 100% success.

Because that’s what we do best at CCTVnerds: turning ‘no way’ into ‘no problem’. Nerd power, FTW!

I've been on the lookout for a way to show different kinds of automation in presentations and training sessions. I'm talking about things like automatic or remote gate opening or closing, stopping a production line, or controlling equipment based on image analysis. It needs to be small, easy to install and modify, and allow integration. And I think I've found the perfect solution!

This test blew my mind! It was one of the first ones I did to test the detection and classification range of the from .... operating on an Axis camera! Not some super fancy server with GPU, not an nVidia JETSON box, just a camera with the iSentry app. The detection distance in this case is 215-230 metres at HD resolution! Who wants to see more tests? :D

PS.
And yeah, we are back ;) so stay tuned for more nerdy stuff. We know you missed us.

Customer send us this video from 13 years old Axis M3113 dome. He was asking if Scylla IDS can detect intruders on an 800x600, low details, jittered, artifact ridden stream... What do you think? ;)
