Sound doesn’t arrive exactly the same way at every distance.

As it travels through air, high-frequency energy is affected more significantly over longer distances. That’s why designing for the far field involves more than simply aiming a loudspeaker farther.

High Frequency Compensation (HFC) is part of the d&b system approach, helping compensate for high-frequency energy lost through air absorption when loudspeakers are covering longer listening distances.

Within an array, this allows engineers to apply compensation where it’s actually needed—based on the role and listening distance of each loudspeaker.

Because distance isn’t just about how far sound travels. It’s about what happens to sound along the way.
