Our Window of Tolerance, is a tool to describe our optimal state of arousal. When we’re in our window we’re grounded, present, here, & can be with all the emotions (whether pleasant or unpleasant).
if we move out of our Window of Tolerance, we move into dysregulation, these states are:
✨HYPERAROUSAL: Too much emotion, where we have lots of overwhelming emotion (e.g. panic, anxiety, anger); in threat mode: fight, flight; hypervigilant; not present in our relationships.
✨HYPOAROUSAL: Too little emotion, where we are in threat mode of shutdown/ collapse; we are totally disconnected from emotions, numb, lights are on but nobodies home. We are totally disconnected from those around us. We may even feel like we are floating or can see ourselves, from outside our bodies.
all of us have fluctuations of mood, however if we have a trauma history, we’re more likely to spend time feeling stuck in these states. This is completely debilitating & causes significant distress.
🙋♀️Can you map out where you are just now? Tracking & getting to know our window is a really important healing tool. & I’ve created a FREE TOOLKIT to do so (link in bio) - a WOT booklet, incl prompts to get to know our triggers, & how this feels in mind/ body & building a resource toolkit. Also ideal for therapists to complete with clients!✨❣️
I want you to know if you relate, that HEALING IS ABSOLUTELY POSSIBLE. I’ve seen thousands of people that I’ve worked with, heal & learn resources to inhabit their bodies, be with emotions & widen their Window of Tolerance.
i teach these skills in my new e-course: ✨NURTURING YOUR NERVOUS SYSTEM COURSE⚡️add your name to my newsletter (link in bio)/ or say “e course” to be added to the wait list
