Who is behind the test? 👇

Simulating an avionics system, monitoring bus traffic, or both: Aviolinks® covers critical avionics protocols like MIL-STD-1553, ARINC-429 and ARINC-825 with multiple interfaces and configurable test setups. Designed, developed, and produced at DEICO.

Field note. MIL-STD-1553 uses Manchester encoding, where every bit carries a transition at its midpoint. The 3-bit-time sync pattern that opens each word breaks that rule by design: it holds one level for 1.5 bit times, then the other for 1.5 more, with no transition in between. As Manchester data, the waveform is invalid; no combination of legitimate bits can produce it. That is exactly what makes it a perfect marker. The receiver does not hunt for a special code buried in the data; it waits for the one shape the data cannot make. When it appears, it can mean only one thing: a word is starting. The safest place to put a landmark is somewhere the language itself cannot go.

In a single aircraft, dozens of units run at the same time. MIL-STD-1553 is the standard that lets them talk to each other. Reliable enough to be trusted across air, ground, and space platforms for decades.

MIL-STD-1553 was published in 1973 and it is still widely used, in aircraft designed half a century apart. Not because the industry is slow to adapt, but because the protocol fulfills its promise: predictable, deterministic timing. A command sent on a MIL-STD-1553 bus arrives within a known, bounded time, a property that significantly increases message delivery reliability in real-time systems.

1 Mbit/s may sound ancient next to modern gigabit links, but for a flight control computer predictable response and certainty take precedence.
