Founders often believe they should choose a software development company based on its portfolio. That’s true, but only partly.

We’ve seen our clients believe this advice because a strong portfolio proves that a team can deliver real products.

But experience taught us that screenshots and case studies don't show the full picture.

They don't tell you how a team communicates, handles changing requirements, solves unexpected problems, or supports your product after launch.

What we think and discuss in our recent blog post is actually true on a much deeper level. Choose a partner based on the whole package: relevant experience, communication, development process, technical expertise, transparency, and long-term support.

This matters most for startups and non-tech founders, where the development partner can shape the product's success from day one.

A great portfolio is a good starting point. But the right partnership goes much deeper.

Colleagues, friends, and founders, do you agree? Or is a strong portfolio still the best way to choose a development partner? Let us know in the comments.

A great SaaS product starts with a great idea 💡

The trick is choosing one that solves a real customer problem 🚀

The strongest ideas focus on making everyday work simpler, faster, or smarter.

Here are a few SaaS ideas worth exploring:

⏰ Productivity and automation tools

📊 Business analytics and reporting platforms

💼 HR and employee management software

💳 Financial management and invoicing solutions

🛒 Ecommerce management platforms

📚 EdTech and online learning applications

🩺 Healthcare management systems

The SaaS market keeps growing because businesses are looking for solutions that save time and improve efficiency.

From our experience, the best products don’t try to solve everything at once.

They solve one important problem really well and grow from there 🎯

That’s often the first step toward building a product users rely on every day.

At Codica, there was an unofficial rule that everyone faithfully followed: on their birthday, you had to bring lots and lots of cakes.

But as the team grew, the number of people in the office increased — and so did the number of cakes, almost exponentially 😄

Over time, a simple life hack emerged: on the way to the office, people would stop by “Silpo” and grab the reliable classics — those same two familiar cakes. Everything else started to be considered “premium” 😄

And the real celebration within the celebration was when someone brought something other than those two standard cakes.

The office would immediately buzz: “Wow! Today we’ve got something different!” 🎉

Because Codica isn’t just about work — it’s also about sharing the sweetest moments. Even if they’re a bit more expensive ❤️

Launching an ecommerce website is exciting 🛒

Planning the budget is where smart decisions begin 💸

Typically, the cost depends on much more than just writing code.

Here’s what has the biggest impact on your ecommerce budget:

🛍️ Store size and product catalog complexity

⚙️ Features like payments, search, wishlists, and customer accounts

🎨 UI/UX design that keeps shoppers engaged

🔗 Third-party integrations with CRMs, ERPs, and payment providers

☁️ Hosting, security, and infrastructure needs

📱 Mobile optimization for a seamless shopping experience

🔄 Ongoing maintenance and feature updates

A basic ecommerce website can start around $50K.

Larger, custom platforms with advanced functionality can exceed $100K+.

From our experience, investing in the right foundation pays off over time 🚀

A scalable architecture and thoughtful feature planning help avoid expensive rebuilds as your business grows.

Building smart from day one is often the most cost-effective path 💡

Zero My Gear: AI Inventory & Marketplace SaaS

Imagine this: you’ve got a pile of camping, fishing, or snowboarding gear. It’s all sitting there unused, and you can’t even remember where half of it is stored. Frustrating? Absolutely.

That’s exactly the problem a U.S.-based client came to us with. The idea was powerful: build a platform where artificial intelligence helps users track their belongings and even monetize them—by selling or renting them out.

What we did:
We assembled a team of 10 top specialists and turned a rough “on-paper” idea into a fully working product. We wrote the code, integrated AI, and connected Stripe payments—in short, we built the full package.

Results we’re proud of (and so is the client):
📍440,000+ sign-ups for early marketing campaigns — people genuinely loved the idea
📍4,200+ high-quality leads generated during the first three campaigns
📍235+ active subscribers right after launch

What the client says:
They shared that we turned their vision into reality and that working with us was smooth, supportive, and genuinely enjoyable. We couldn’t be more proud!
