We’ve organized the 30th Drupal Café Lutsk!

The very first Drupal Café in Lutsk took place in 2016 with nearly 40 attendees. Over the years, participation steadily grew and eventually exceeded 100 people per event, making Drupal Café Lutsk the largest free Drupal meetup in the world. Today, the event is held four times a year, and we’ve just celebrated our 30th one.

Of course, the journey had its ups and downs and a few surprises along the way. One highlight was when we placed Drupal founder Dries Buytaert on the event logo, and he personally approved it!

Finding the right venue was another challenge. After several locations, DevBranch built its own office in 2021, including a room designed as a conference hall for community events. The format also evolved: what started with two technical Drupal talks expanded to three sessions, adding a non-technical IT topic to reach a broader audience.

It should be mentioned that we often have speakers who are our IT colleagues currently serving in the Defence Forces of Ukraine. They share how their IT knowledge and skills help them in service, giving the community a unique insight and inspiring real-life stories.

30 events. Hundreds of talks. Thousands of conversations. And the community keeps growing.

See you at the next !

We’ve celebrated the 10th anniversary of DevBranch.ㅤ

Since late 2015, we have been a part of Drupal 6 - Drupal 11 projects.
And frankly, looking forward to being a part of the Drupal version 17 release in the next 10-year milestone.
The growth has been exactly by x10 team members.
From 5 founding fathers, to 50+ people at the moment.
And frankly, not looking forward to the same x10 numbers in the next 10 years to 500 people 🙃
We’re about organic growth.ㅤ

A huge thank you to our amazing team and partners for being part of our story.
Here’s to the next 10 years of building great things together! 🚀

The demand for blood donations has increased since russian full-scale invasion in 2022.
We cooperated as a team around this medical activity a while ago.ㅤ
There’s an NGO ДонорUA which:
- promotes the very idea;
- provides a platform with a detailed stats on blood contribution (both individual and collective), and converts that data to ‘number of lives saved’ parameter;
- urges businesses to support donors with bonuses.
Great mission and implementation by visualizing what you do.

The DevBranch Team contributed 79 donations total so far.
And will continue to do so.

Since 2022, attending international events has been nearly impossible for many Ukrainian Drupal contributors, including our team at DevBranch.
But even when borders are closed and travel is restricted, our connection to the global Drupal family remains strong.

That’s why we teamed up with AnyforSoft to create a banner with a simple message:
"Ukrainian Drupal Community: Absent from In-Person Events since 2022."

It’s not just a sentence. It serves as a reminder of the challenges we face.

Thanks to the amazing support of the Drupal community, this banner has already appeared at events around the world, including:
- DrupalCon Portland.
- DrupalCon Barcelona.
- Drupal GovCon.
- DrupalSouth Melbourne.
- DrupalCamp Ottawa.
- DrupalCamp Finland + Baltics.
- DrupalCamp Ghent (Belgium).
- DrupalJam Utrecht (Netherlands).
- Drupal Dev Days Burgas (Bulgaria).
- Drupal Dev Days Belgium.
- DrupalJam.

Want to display this message at your upcoming camp or conference?
Send us a DM, we’ll gladly share the assets.

To everyone helping us stay visible: thank you!
We hope the day comes soon when we no longer need this banner, because we’ll be standing there with you in person. 💙💛

A few weeks ago, we had a special visitor at our coworking space in Lutsk - someone who came as a guest from Switzerland and left as a DevBranch partner.

In person. In the middle of a war.
Just to shake hands, meet the team, and officially kick off our collaboration.

That kind of commitment doesn’t go unnoticed. It’s rare - and it speaks volumes.
When someone crosses countries not just for business, but because they believe in what we’re building together - that’s real trust.

We’re proud of this partnership and excited for what’s ahead!

Continuing the topic of Drupal contributions, the Drupal Global Contribution Weekend 2025 took place in Lutsk on January 25th, for the 8th year in a row!

Let's summarize and extend our gratitude:
1. Over 30 people joined us on their weekday.
2. 7 mentors led their respective tracks.
3. 140 issues were tagged with , and 114 were completed at the time of this post. That's an 81% completion rate! All credits go to the Drupal Ukraine Community.
4. Two long-time supporters, and equally awesome, ImageX Ukraine and AnyforSoft Thank you for being so cooperative!

And of course, a big shoutout to our DevBranch teammates involved in organizing.

Thanks to everyone who contributed in any capacity!
And to those who couldn't join us this time, we sincerely hope to see you next year ☺️

Stay safe!

January 5, 2025 – Drupal 7 has officially reached its End of Life (EoL).
The legend is gone, but it will forever live in our hearts!

With the focus shifting toward the Drupal 11 and Drupal CMS, no further Drupal 7 (D7) support is expected.
After 3 postponements for over 3 years, the Drupal world has finally entered a new chapter.

Since the original EoL date, only half of the websites (~265k) have been migrated to D8+ or other CMSs.
The rest still runs on D7, relying on the maintenance of contributed modules.
Huge respect for everybody keeping D7 alive:
https://www.drupal.org/about/drupal-7/d7eol/migration-resource-center/d7-extended-security-support

DevBranch decided to stop working with D7 in 2020, focusing solely on migrating it to newer major versions.
However, we have assisted our partners with D7 support on several occasions since then.

Do you or your team still work with Drupal 7?

Was Drupal 11 released too early? 😃
Can we stay on Drupal 10 as long as possible?
What are the system requirements and dependencies for the new version?

These and other topics were discussed during our small Drupal 11 release party.

How did DevBranch team meet Drupal 11 release?
We listened to a session from Vlad Denisyuk about all the most important new features, talked through lots of Drupal-related questions, and ordered burgers and drinks for everyone.

The most important conclusion is that our team can’t wait on 2 things: joining big Drupal events around the globe, and upgrading to Drupal 11.

It’s been 879 days since it became almost impossible for the Ukrainian folk to visit international Drupal events.

Everyone in the Drupal world values the Community for powerful support, open-mindedness, and a wide network.
The Ukrainian Drupal Community keeps strong connections with individuals and communities and their support has been invaluable.

So we created a banner to share our message at multiple events, and here are those who already supported our initiative:
- DrupalCon Portland;
- DrupalCamp Finland + Baltics;
- DrupalCamp Ghent (Belgium);
- DrupalJam Utrecht (Netherlands);
- Drupal Dev Days Burgas (Bulgaria);
- what’s next? ;)

Stay tuned and thank you all for your continued encouragement!
And for sure, we will get back to the awesome events all over the world as soon as possible.

Ps. Banner created by DevBranch and AnyforSoft teams.
It would be great to give special thanks to Олена Москалик and all Drupal event organizers for their support.
