Chimplie members from all across Ukraine have been directly affected by the war. Since day one, we are doing everything that’s in our power to help our members and their families: assisting with evacuation to western parts of Ukraine and building support systems for our members there. The focus has been on helping the effort of all those who wish to evacuate, and our first and foremost priority was establishing a sanctuary in Uzhhorod, a town bordering the EU. This Chimplie Safehouse initiative has now helped many Chimplie members (as well as their families and friends), serving as a temporary base. From here, our members have either moved further west, or found a safe haven where they can continue to work and live comfortably. We will continue expanding this infrastructure and doing everything we can to help our members seeking temporary refuge in Uzhhorod, whether their plans are to stay, live, and work here, or to go abroad.

We recently spoke to Anton, a front-end developer working on our latest Chimplie product.

How did you find out about your passion for front-end development?

“I decided to take up coding as soon as I realised that it allowed you to build impressive things. I see coding as an ecosystem: all of the different parts of this system contribute in different ways to creating what we commonly refer to as “product”. Within this ecosystem, I picked front-end development because it was the one that spoke the most to me. It’s where my creative energy finds an outlet. I get inspired by seeing beautifully designed products, and in turn I reinvest that inspiration in wanting to create new tools that are just as beautiful.

“I believe that, ultimately, the difference between regular products and great products is the attention to detail.”

What drives you the most about the work you do?

“Well, first of all, I love seeing the fruits of my efforts come to life into beautifully designed technical and visual components. That’s a major source of motivation for me. Then, what’s also very important for me is for the product I am building to serve a purpose. I want my work to matter.”

The other day we had a chat with Dima, back-end engineer working on a Chimplie internal project.

How has your personal journey brought you to computer engineering?

“As a teenager I was addicted to maths & physics. I loved non-trivial tasks, but I felt programming was the opposite of that. I saw it mostly as a reimplementation of commonly used algorithms, since most coding competitions were fundamentally about that. It was nothing novel, or fun. By a twist of fate though, I ended up enrolling into a Computer Science degree where I slowly changed my mind, and developed an interest in the field. After getting my first job, I finally realised that my passion stemmed not from programming itself, rather from the ability to solve real-life challenges.”

What inspires you the most in the work you do?

“I don’t want to create things for the sake of creating things. I want to create in order to solve problems. It’s something I was lacking at my previous job but that I’ve now found here at Chimplie. I have been working with end users ever since my first project. Getting direct feedback from them is really powerful. That’s what fuels my motivation. I would say that, ultimately, what really drives me in my professional journey is knowing that I’m making someone’s life easier.”
