One of the most liberating discoveries in business is that the companies you admire are run by people who are also afraid, also uncertain, and also making it up as they go with the best information available.

Nobody handed them a manual. Nobody hands anyone a manual. The difference between them and everyone still waiting to feel ready is simply that they started before the fear left.

It never fully leaves. They just got used to moving with it.

The difference between a site that feels expensive and one that does not is rarely the typeface chosen. It is the discipline applied to sizing, spacing, and weight. One headline size. One subheading. One body. Enough whitespace between them that the hierarchy reads before a single word is processed.

Typography is not decoration. It is the order in which your visitor understands you.

I will persist until I succeed.

I was not delivered unto this world in defeat, nor does failure course in my veins. I am not a sheep waiting to be prodded by my shepherd. I am a lion and I refuse to talk, to walk, to sleep with the sheep. I will hear not those who weep and complain, for their disease is contagious. Let them join the sheep. The slaughterhouse of failure is not my destiny.

I will persist until I succeed.

The prizes of life are at the end of each journey, not near the beginning; and it is not given to me to know how many steps are necessary in order to reach my goal. Failure I may still encounter at the thousandth step, yet success hides behind the next bend in the road. Never will I know how close it lies unless I turn the corner.

A Passage from The Greatest Salesman in the World by Og Mandino

The stock is in. The shelves are full. The money is spent and the preparation is complete.

Every business owner knows this feeling. The particular mix of relief and vulnerability that comes when everything within your control has been done and the only thing left is the one thing you cannot control. The customer. You have planted. The harvest is no longer in your hands.

The wait that follows is the quietest and the loudest part of the business season at the same time. Loud because every day without a sale speaks. Quiet because there is nothing left to do but open the door and trust the preparation.

Full shelves are both a source of pride and a prayer. You were ready. Now the market must respond.

A delayed website has two possible causes. The developer is stuck or you are. Check which one is true before the next follow up message. If it is them, write a clear deadline in writing. If communication stops entirely after that, finding another developer is not betrayal. It is business.

Availability is a more powerful force than preference. Given enough friction, even the most loyal customer compromises.

The product that wins is not always the best one. It is the most accessible one.

This is why proximity matters in business. The shop nearest the customer will outsell the better shop three streets away more often than either of them realises.

Every single day, without fail, approximately 33,000 new domains are registered somewhere in the world. Not per week. Not per month. Per day.

In 2020 there were 201.6 million total registered domains. By the end of 2021 that number had jumped to 438.4 million — a 117% increase in a single year. The single biggest day in domain registration history was September 21st 2021, when 14.5 million new domains were registered in one day alone. The pandemic had pushed the entire world online and the numbers showed it. By late 2024 registered domains were approaching 800 million and the daily registrations have not slowed since.

Every one of those domains is a business that needs a website. Every website needs someone to build it. Every someone who builds it needs hosting, needs support, needs a developer, needs a designer.

There are web designers who genuinely believe the market is saturated. That there is not enough work to go around. That the competition is too fierce and the clients too few. The numbers above suggest a different reality entirely.

On average there are about 33,000 domain name registrations every single day. That is 33,000 new potential clients entering the market daily. Not annually. Not monthly.

The pool is not shrinking. It has never been bigger. The only real question is how many of those 33,000 daily registrations will find you before they find someone else.

Before electricity existed, staying up late was not just a decision. It was an expense.

The phrase burning the midnight oil originates from the practice of working late into the night by the light of an oil lamp. Oil cost money. Light was rationed. If a household saw light under a door at an unusually late hour, it truly meant someone was still burning oil. The sacrifice was visible. The neighbours knew. The family knew. The person burning it knew exactly what the extra hours were costing them.

The first known reference appears in Francis Quarles' Emblemes in 1635. Nearly four centuries later the phrase still captures something electricity never changed. The willingness to go past the point where everyone else stopped.

The lamp is now a laptop. The oil is now time. The cost is still real.

Naval Ravikant said do the hard thing early so the easy thing comes later.

The easy path is always available. It simply moves the difficulty forward in time, with interest.

Easy now, regret later. Hard now, smile longer.

If AI can build a website for free in fifteen minutes, why do businesses still pay developers thousands to build theirs?

Because free builds a presence. It does not build trust. And at a certain point in a business's growth those two things stop being the same.

The moment the business starts to scale, the website becomes something different. A sales tool. A trust signal. A first impression for clients who are about to spend real money and are deciding whether you are the kind of operation worth spending it with. That judgment is made in seconds, mostly unconsciously, and mostly based on how the site feels rather than what it says.

The cheaper the design the less the designer was involved with any of that. Low budget work gets a template configured, not a business understood. Nobody asked what the visitor should feel, what action they should take, or what the site needed to say to a specific kind of client on a specific kind of day. The price was low because the thinking was minimal. The two things are almost always connected.

A website is not priced by the page. It is priced by the depth of expertise behind each one.
