BIG NEWS!!
Please read the following announcement that Reveals the new addition to our business! Also, please feel free to share this information and like our new page here on Facebook to get updates, news, and photos of all of the progress.
The local food system has been crucial to our family for the past 16 years as we have worked to market and provide locally grown produce to consumers through our company, Country Roads Produce, Inc. We have grown and expanded in season produce sales over time and have played a role in the local food production chain for this community. The produce season in Iowa is short and very seasonal. We thoroughly enjoy the produce side of our business and do not have any immediate intentions to end our summer production, however, it will change slightly to help us to maintain the high level of standards that we strive for.
Our family firmly believes in a substantial need for a strong local food system. We are planning to expand our current role in the local area food system by adding a custom meat processing facility and a fresh local retail meat counter to our business. This facility will be an official state-inspected processing plant and retail meat market. Under these certifications, we will be able to purchase local area beef and hogs, slaughter them at our facility (with a state inspector present) and then process and sell this meat directly to area customers through our retail counter. This will provide local area customers with an opportunity to visit and shop at a meat market where they can purchase fresh local area meat products!
In addition to our retail meat counter, we will also take appointments for Custom Beef and Hog Processing and during deer season we will also be available to process deer for customers as well as take in HUSH deer.
Our plan is to develop ongoing relationships with local area farmers to ensure that we have a continued supply of beef and hogs to process each week for our retail sales counter. Through our retail counter, we will offer fresh choice cuts and products ranging from steaks, roasts, hamburger, sausages, bacon, and hams just to name a few options. We will also add a line of specialty meats to our counter such as jerky, summer sausage, sticks, and brats. Customers will be able to purchase these products fresh or frozen knowing that they are buying a local, high-quality meat product for their families.
For those who are not familiar with our family outside of our produce operation, we should mention that for the past 10 years Mike has spent his fall and winter months (and even some spring and summer months) working at local area meat lockers. He has developed the specific skills needed to process beef and hogs. Currently, he is continuing to polish his skills while helping at Perk's Processing in Blakesburg, Iowa. Perk plans to retire as soon as our locker is officially open, so Mike has been helping him since this past May. We have been planning and discussing the possibility of adding some types of meat products to our business for quite some time and within the past year, we feel that God has been leading us in this direction and that the time was right for our expansion.
Our mission at Country Roads Meat Market is to supply consumers with a high-quality, local meat product that is fresh, affordable, and readily available. We also will strive to operate our processing facility with a superior standard of skill, honesty, and reliability.
We, the Seals Family, hold a standard of core values that do not waiver in business, life, and family. We, along with our boys, Matthew and Carson, have worked to create a business atmosphere over the past 16 years through Country Roads Produce that holds honesty, respect, reliability, hard work ethic, quality, and service to a very high standard. We choose to develop long-standing relationships with our customers by getting to know them and their families, learning what products are important to them, and also educating them on the process of exactly how our products develop from start to finish. These core values and qualities transfer directly from our lives at home to our business and we will not expect anything less from Country Roads Meat Market and its staff.
So, where will the meat market be located? Actually, not very far from our produce stand! We will be located on 230th Ave, which is located in the Industrial Park. Our meat market will be near C&C Machining and the Transfer Station.
We currently have created a page for Country Roads Meat Market. We will post photos, updates, and news as the construction begins and continues over the next few months. Please search for, Like, and Follow Country Roads Meat Market and also share or invite others to follow our page as we continue to spread the news of this new business coming to town.
We welcome any questions and will try to answer all of them within a reasonable amount of time. We look forward to the progress and construction and also to an eventual opening day! Thank you all for your support over the past 16 years!
