Since last summer I've been working on designing new standing heads for the small nonprofit monthly newspaper that I work for part time. They debuted this month so I wanted to share them here in before-and-after form. Not that they're groundbreaking design, but I think they are an improvement and I hope locals enjoy the change.
The typefaces used are Myriad Pro and Myriad sketch (since the paper already uses Robert Slimbach's Utopia for text and headlines and I transitioned to Myriad Pro for the newly-designed calendar page that I shared here recently). The brush script is Adlery Pro by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini for a more handmade feel.
Due to time/budget constraints most of the illustrations are stock - the horse, groups of people, paintbrush and palette, musical notes etc. Some I created in Illustrator ("Garden Guru" elements, "Land, Water & People" mountains, which mimic the Sangre De Cristo range, and the map of Saguache County).
I'm not the newspaper designer but help out with redesigned elements when asked.
