The businesses that win aren't always the best.

They're usually the easiest to trust.

The easiest way to beat your competitors:

Answer your phone.

Reply to your leads.

Think about how your business actually grew.

Someone did good work for a neighbor. That neighbor told a friend at a cookout. That friend called you. No ads, no funnel — just trust passed person to person.

That never went away. It just moved.

Today that same conversation happens on Google. Before anyone calls you, they read what other people said about you. Your reviews are the new word of mouth — except now hundreds of strangers are vouching for you at once, 24/7, to people you'll never meet.

And it does more than build trust:

- More reviews help you rank higher and show up first
- Recent reviews tell people (and AI) you're active and reliable
- Your replies show you actually care after the job is done

The best part? You already earn these every day. You finish a job, the customer's happy — that's the moment the old referral used to happen.

Now you just have to ask them to also put it on Google.

Same trust that built your business. Bigger audience. Ask for the review.

Someone lands on your website. The clock starts.

In about 5 seconds, they decide whether to stay or hit the back button. That's it. You don't get a second chance to explain.

So what do most websites do with those 5 seconds?

A giant slideshow that says "Welcome to our website"
A slow-loading video of a sunset
Zero clue what you actually do or where you do it

Five seconds gone. Visitor gone.

The sites that win answer three questions the instant someone lands:

What do you do?
Do you do it where I am?
What do I do next?

That's it. Not clever. Not flashy. Clear.

If a stranger can't tell what you offer, who it's for, and how to take the next step before that timer runs out, the best design in the world won't save you.

Don't waste the 5 seconds. They're the only ones you're guaranteed.

"Contact us for a quote" feels safe. But to a customer, it sounds like work — a form, a phone call, a sales pitch, all just to find out if you're even in their budget. So they don't bother. They click the competitor who already told them.

Here's the thing: people aren't scared of your prices. They're scared of guessing wrong. Of feeling dumb. Of getting on a call and finding out you're triple what they expected.

Take that fear away and you remove the biggest reason they hesitate.
You don't need to list every job down to the dollar. Even a starting price, a range, or a few real examples does the work:

"Most jobs run between $X and $Y"
"Service calls start at $X"
"Here's what a typical project looks like"

That's not giving away leverage. That's earning trust before you ever pick up the phone — and filtering out the tire-kickers while you're at it.

Show the number. The customers who stay are the ones worth talking to.

Right now, someone in your area is asking AI, "Who's the best [your service] near me?"

It's giving an answer. The question is whether that answer is you.

AI doesn't guess. It recommends the businesses it can clearly understand and verify. So if your competitor is showing up instead, it usually comes down to a few things:

They have more (and fresher) Google reviews
Their services and service area are spelled out clearly
Their pricing and answers to common questions are easy to find
Their Google Business Profile is complete and active
None of that is luck. It's just being clearer and more trusted than the next guy.

Flip it by giving AI something to recommend: keep reviews coming in, answer the questions customers actually ask, and make it obvious what you do, where, and for how much.

Be the easiest business to recommend, and you become the one that gets recommended.

"Contact us for pricing" feels safe. It isn't.

Here's what actually happens when someone hits that wall: they don't fill out your form. They don't call. They close the tab and click the competitor who told them upfront.

You never even knew they were there.

People want to know if you fit their budget before they invest time in a conversation. Hiding the number doesn't build intrigue — it builds friction. And friction quietly kills sales you never see.

The objections to showing pricing usually sound like:
- "Every job is custom." → Then show a starting price or a range.
- "Competitors will see it." → Your customers already wish they could.
- "I want to explain the value first." → A price with context does that better than silence.

Transparency does the filtering for you. The people who see your pricing and reach out anyway are pre-qualified — they know roughly what to expect and they're still interested. That's a better lead and a shorter sales conversation.

Show the number. Even a "starting at" or a range. The customers who stay are the ones actually worth your time — and the ones who leave were never going to buy anyway.
