👻 Detroit has traffic history, automotive history… and apparently a haunted mansion bar, too.

The Whitney, one of Detroit’s most iconic historic mansions, is known for its incredible architecture, stained glass, woodwork, and yes, a few ghost stories along the way.
We stopped by the famous Ghost bar to see what all the buzz was about. Thankfully the drinks were great, the atmosphere was incredible, and we didn’t run into anything paranormal ourselves.

At least… we don’t think we did.

With all the walking you’ll be doing during ITS America 2026, you’re bound to need a good place to sit down and refuel. Joe Muer Seafood, established in 1929, is one of Detroit’s classic fine dining restaurants and it’s conveniently connected to the Marriott, the official conference hotel.

From fresh seafood to lobster bisque that absolutely lived up to the hype, this spot is definitely worth adding to your Detroit list.

One recommendation, make reservations early. It fills up quickly during conference week.

🎶 Detroit’s influence on innovation goes far beyond transportation.

Motown Records helped reshape the music industry right here in the Motor City, launching legendary artists and creating a sound that influenced generations of music around the world.

Today, the Motown Museum gives visitors a chance to step into that history and see where Berry Gordy built one of the most influential recording studios of all time. If you’re visiting Detroit for ITS America 2026, this is one cultural stop that’s well worth experiencing.

đźš— An important heads up for attendees renting vehicles in Detroit: some of the downtown parking garages have lower clearance heights than you might expect, especially near Huntington Place and the surrounding hotels.

So if you’re planning to rent a vehicle for conference week, maybe skip the oversized SUV.

Come to Detroit for ITS America 2026, stay for the Ford Museum - it’s absolutely worth adding to your itinerary. Between the factory tours, historic vehicles, interactive exhibits, and entirely relocated historic homes inside Greenfield Village, this is far more than a quick museum stop.

You can watch vehicles being built live inside the factory, explore the history of Ford and the automotive industry, and experience the innovations that helped shape modern transportation as we know it today.

One recommendation, plan ahead. You could easily spend an entire day here and still not see everything.

A quick Detroit conference tip for ITS America 2026 attendees staying near the waterfront. If you’re trying to enter the Marriott Renaissance from the waterfront side and you’re not a hotel guest, security will likely redirect you to the main entrance.

The easiest option is to head one street further up and walk around to the front of the hotel instead. It’s one of those small conference-week details that can save you a little confusion and a few extra steps while navigating downtown Detroit.

🇺🇸🇨🇦 Detroit gives ITS America 2026 attendees a pretty unique opportunity, you can visit both the United States and Canada in the same trip.

Windsor, Ontario is located just across the river from downtown Detroit, making it an easy visit if you’re extending your stay or traveling with family during conference week.

Standing along the waterfront and seeing American flags on one side and Canadian flags directly across the river is a pretty incredible sight. Just remember to bring your passport if you plan on making the trip across the border.

đź›´ Downtown Detroit is a great city to explore on a Lime scooter.

If you’re heading to ITS America 2026, Lime scooters are an easy way to get around downtown between meetings, restaurants, hotels, and the waterfront. Just open the app, find a nearby scooter, scan the QR code, and you’re off.

It’s quick, surprisingly fun, and honestly one of the easiest ways to cover more ground during conference week.

Detroit’s Labor Legacy Monument, “Transcending”, symbolizes the ongoing relationship between workers, unions, manufacturers, and the people building the future together. One intentional gap in the structure represents that progress is always continuing.

Whether it’s improving mobility, modernizing infrastructure, or working toward zero roadway fatalities, we’re always building, improving, and pushing forward.
