When the wind dies down, the work is often just beginning.

Tropical Depression Edouard has moved inland over southeastern Texas, but the threat isn’t over. As of the morning of September 2, the National Hurricane Center reports that gusty winds and heavy rainfall continue across Southeast Texas, while the Weather Prediction Center has a Moderate Risk of excessive rainfall in effect.

Our thoughts are with the families, businesses and communities dealing with flooding and storm impacts today.

For those of us in claims, this is also a reminder that a storm weakening on the weather map doesn’t mean the hardship is over. Recovery takes time — and how we show up for policyholders during those first difficult days matters.

🌀 Tropical Storm Edouard strengthens before Gulf Coast landfall

As of 10:00 a.m. CDT, the National Hurricane Center had Tropical Storm Edouard at 50 mph, about 40 miles southeast of Cameron, Louisiana, moving northwest at 8 mph. NHC says additional strengthening is expected before Edouard reaches the northwestern Gulf Coast later today, with tropical-storm conditions affecting portions of southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana.

It doesn’t have to have a name to matter.

This morning, the National Hurricane Center is closely watching Invest AL97 in the northern Gulf. As of August 31, the system has a high chance of tropical development as it moves toward the Upper Texas and southwest Louisiana coast. More importantly, regardless of whether it becomes a named storm, locally heavy rainfall is expected along portions of the coast over the next several days.

For those of us in claims, that’s an important reminder: the impact matters more than the name.

Our thoughts are with the families, businesses and communities along the Gulf Coast watching this system today. Stay weather-aware, follow guidance from local officials, and please don’t underestimate flooding.
