Last year when we asked our partners what COULD we do, it resulted in an experience like no other. What does it take to build a $1.3 million, 14.18.10 immersive home cinema inside an empty convention sound room? This is your all-access pass behind the scenes of Sound Room 7 at CEDIA Expo 2025.
For five days leading up to the opening of CEDIA 2025, cameras captured the transformation of an empty room into one of the most ambitious immersive audio and video demonstrations ever assembled at the show. This special feature draws from roughly 30 to 40 hours of real-time video, time-lapse footage, and still photography, documenting the construction, installation, integration, and final preparation of Sound Room 7 from virtually the very beginning.
And this wasn't just another high-end home theater demo. Sound Room 7 brought together Seymour-Screen Excellence, StormAudio, ASCENDO Immersive Audio, Christie, madVR Labs, Panamorph, Moovia, and Simplified Acoustics to create a staggering 14.18.10 immersive cinema designed to demonstrate what happens when cost, scale, and performance are pushed to the extreme.
At the heart of the room was an extraordinary ASCENDO loudspeaker and subwoofer system valued at more than $716,000, including the worldwide debut of the radical ASCENDO HALO loudspeaker as the screen channels. Bass was another story entirely. The room featured an enormous array of ASCENDO subwoofers capped by two new 64-inch infrasonic subwoofers, also making their CEDIA Expo debut. Video was every bit as extreme. The room hosted the debut of the Christie Eclipse G3, a roughly $400,000 projection system capable of producing 30,000 ANSI lumens, approximately 98% of the Rec. 2020 color space, and a claimed contrast ratio reaching 20,000,000:1. The projector was paired with a madVR Envy Extreme 8 video processor and Panamorph's flagship Alpha Pro anamorphic lens, feeding a 15-foot diagonal Seymour-Screen Excellence MFR acoustically transparent screen system with motorized 16:9 masking.
Processing the enormous 14.18.10 audio system was StormAudio's ISP Elite 32 Digital AoIP processor, with system calibration performed in collaboration with ASCENDO using manual calibration techniques along with Dirac Live Active Room Treatment (ART). Simplified Acoustics handled the room's acoustic treatment, including its BDP Binary Amplitude Diffusion panels, while three rows of Moovia MARBELLA luxury seating, finished in Italian wool with walnut trim, completed the theater.
But the equipment is only part of this story.
Most CEDIA attendees entered Sound Room 7 after everything was installed, calibrated, cleaned up, and ready for showtime. This video shows you what happened before they arrived. You'll watch equipment being unpacked and positioned, speakers and enormous subwoofers moving into place, the projection system coming together, acoustic treatments being installed, seating arriving, cables being run, system integration taking shape, and dozens of other details that disappear once a finished demonstration room opens its doors.
It's also a rare opportunity to see the people behind these products working together in real time. Building a system of this scale inside a temporary convention space presents challenges that simply don't exist in a permanent home cinema. Everything has to arrive, fit, communicate, function, and ultimately perform at an extremely high level against an unforgiving deadline.
Five days. An empty convention room. A 14.18.10 immersive audio system. Eighteen subwoofer channels. Ten overhead channels. A $400,000 projector. Two 64-inch infrasonic subwoofers. More than $700,000 worth of ASCENDO audio equipment. And roughly $1.3 million of home cinema technology brought together for one extraordinary CEDIA demonstration.
