Ever felt uneasy every time you spot a homeless fellow staring at you when you stop at that red light corner? For me, that uncomfortable feeling also comes when I encounter homeless patients at the pharmacy counter where all I could do was assist with medications and some snacks. I tried not to turn a blind eye but I know that it can be very difficult for some to adhere to all the health improvement recommendations I give. Or anytime I turn on the news and learn a terrible event has happened calling for relief support.
I try to give here and there. Still, there is still a lot more that I can do. Like you, every day, it seems like there are a million things that need my hard-earned money—student loans, bills, saving for a mortgage, emergency fund, etc. But then, that feeling of inadequate giving sometimes creeps in.
I once saw a Ted Talk by motivational speaker Lisa Nichols about filling up your own cup first, and then giving others from your overflow. However, for the past few years, I felt that I’ll never get to the point where I’ll have enough overflow.
After 18 years of formal education, I earned my Doctorate in Pharmacy and loving my career. I owe a big part of it to the goodwill of strangers who have housed me in their loving families, donated clothes and supplies for school, and even funded most of my education through scholarships. It started with me winning two art and essay contests in middle school (a $200 prize that turned into a surprised $25,000 scholarship). I also owe it to my teachers, friends, and generous strangers who reminded me as I pursue my career choice in the sciences; do not forget that desire to make a difference.
A few months ago, I reconnected with a college friend. She explained to me how her company, Chromeboss Masterclass, helps everyday people like you and I use their free time to develop creative software without knowing how to code. My heart skipped a beat!
In that moment, Software for Smiles was born. This project has a mission to create powerful chrome extensions and directs profits toward charities. Rather than people paying large companies for expensive software, I will have the ability to redirect some of that resource toward meaningful causes I support and have scalable impact.
Fast forward to December 2019, InstaDM Followers, the first Instagram engagement data extraction tool, got published on the chrome web store. This software is a Google Chrome extension that lets you quickly grab engagement data from any Instagram post, sort out the followers versus nonfollowers, and push it to Google Sheets. With quick links sorted data, you can quickly target DM or return engagement, and hence, easily convert the nonfollowers to followers.
